Regarding the background check; when is that done? My point being; If one enlists under the SEAL Contract - they go through Boots, A School, etc... then they find something that would eliminate a BUD/S candidate - is that person sent to the Fleet? or would it be possible to be discharged? Thank you inadvance.

Thay do a back ground check before you even join. Hell thay did one on me when i was studying some ASVAB stuff with the recruiters one day. OH and sorry for answering a question that was pointed towards a SEAL but i dont think you need to be a SEAL to answere this question.

DMANN - he is referring to the more in-depth background check (EXTREMELY IN DEPTH) done by the FBI, etc. That is why you fill out the "Questionaire for National Security Positions" which is the 20-some page long document that asks you everything including how many times you peed on the floor of a public restroom! *lol* (j/k). It is done usually while you are at A School or BUD/S. I was questioned by the FBI about mine when I was in BUD/S first phase (the typical questioning - I was NOT in trouble *lol*).

Why were you curious about this? DO you have something to hide? *lol* If so, they WILL find it - I guarentee it. Do NOT lie or you can be arrested!

What if what you don't want found is on your juvenile records? I was under the impression that not even god can open juvenile records.

I do not feel like I have anything to hide, however I must plead ignorance - I do not know the things that they will be looking into. So, my question is: if they DO find something - and it omits you from BUD/S - what is your status? Back to the Fleet? Discharged? Thanks...

That's right..can only be opened by Court Order, and the Judge will demand a damn good reason...Let's not forget that the military provides a "fresh start" and a "clean slate"...more or less

Unless you are a military brat, in which case, all your childhood is open for inspection. Got in a little trouble when I was 10 or 11 in Germany. Got caught by Povost Marshal, had to answer questions about it 8 or 9 years later when applying for TS. Did not stop me getting clearence, I was just very surprised at what they could dig up.

Background checks are as thorough as the entity requesting the check so requests. It can be cursory (just surface history), or can be thorough with a contact visiting your home town(s) and looking into your school and police records, plus visiting a few of your neighbors. A thorough Background investigation must come up with continuity since the day you were born to insure there are no blank spots in your life, to the extreme, that allowed visits to opposing Nations, or, that you were not a "Sleeper" planted by an opposing Nation.

I have had several thorough Background investigations run on me and I assure you I am just an average guy. I had my small, usual problems. My most thorough BI including passing the lie box (Lie Detector). No big deal. Either your accepted or your not. And one could or could not be subject to an interview by a Psychologist if the requesting entity deems necessary.

A62: I have done a few BI's on others and it is amazing how far back the paper and voice trail goes back into one's life. But if I fooled them, anyone can pass a BI that is an average person. Those with a pattern of misdemeanors or a felony can forget about it. Those with a pattern of violence, membership in anti-American groups can forget about it.

DMANN: It is wiser and courteous to let persons who have been addressed answer their own posts. A BI is not done in one day or a few hours. It takes approx 4 months to run an avaerage, thorough BI. Those at the cursory level are done mostly by analyzing the BI form that the subject fills out, plus some phone calls and letters. I alter my above presentation to the meet the pattern that the entity requesting the BI will so request at the time the BI is submitted.

As far as Juvenile, or any other records being opened, it depends o the level of Clearance and the agency doing the BI. The best Policy is to list any and all infractions. If they are not listed the agency doing the BI grenerally frowns on finding out things that appear to be hidden by the subject..If you don't want to list the details fine, but let them know there is something.
