Hello everyone, I'm new on the board here. Its actually my first post. So let's start from the beginning. I'm 15 years old, and I'm thinking about my future. Maybe I'll be a Navy SEAL, but that's what I'm here asking about. I want to go to a military college, and after I graduate (from West Point, for example), I would have to serve in the US Army for 5 years. So, would I have to join the Navy and work as a sailor for a time before applying to become a Navy SEAL? I'm uncertain about many things.
Also just to say this in the beginning, yes I have played SOCOM:Navy SEALs... Once. I don't own it, and it was not the determining factor, or any major factor, in choosing the military as a possibility. Actually, it was my father, and my friends. I think if we talk on the boards, you will see that I am not an ignorant teenager.. I'm actually serious about it. I want more out of life, challenges. School is not challenging me enough, however in the time I have after school, I try and do constructive things.... The big thing for people my age is this whole online world. I am getting away from that, because I have a life ahead of me after this.. Anyone who can help answering my questions as stated in the first paragraph, thanks, and I appreciate it.
Lastly, I respect you who have served, (My father is a Vietnam vet, US Marine)
Looking forward to talking to everyone!

First, yes you must be in the navy. Second, if your ultimate goal is to be a SEAL, then why bother with 5 years of the service in the army? I would reccomend that you actually attend a state college or university, and you should really look into the sea cadets program.

When you join the navy, you have the choice of what you wanna do. There are several rates or "jobs skills" that you can have to become a SEAL. When you sign-up, you have a choice of what your rate will be (unless there are no empty spots), and when you sign up for that rate--gunner's mate for example--you will go to train for that rate in "A" school. After that, and depending on whether or not you passed qualifications, you will be ordered to BUD/S, or to your new job on a ship.

My adivce to you is read everything you can about this subject. There is tons of information about your question on this site. Just keep looking around.

Why not go to Annapolis if you are qualified, then you would be in the Navy already and not waste 5 years in the Army.

Try for Annapolis, compete for a BUDs billet, and sick it to 'em. Don't waste five years in the Army if you want to become a SEAL.
