Ok, im interested in being a SEAL Officer. But not sure on the route I must take to ensure the best outcome. Should I go to the Academy for the best chace? Or is ROTC just as equal. I'm going to apply for the Academy anyway, Cause I'd like to go (a big plus) but if by some chance I don't get in, ROTC is the next thing. So I'm just asking if a lot of Officers come from ROTC or the Academy, and which offers the better chance of getting into Training.

Also, I'v been bouncing back between different branches of service looking at their Speical Operation units and trying to find the one thats right for me. I like the idea of Combat Diving, sitting on the bottom of the ocean for an hour, then comming up, killing 3 crocs and heading inland to stangle a guard on the dock with dental floss. (might be a bit over there, but sorry) So, the Combat Diving is what catches my eye about the SEALs. But hows it compare to other baraches' "Combat Divers?" Doesn't take a rocket scientist to know SEALs are water born, but is it just more time in the water? or do the "water" mission differ? Thanks for you time.

Hey buddy,

I am a senior this year and have been in a similar situation. If you want to be a SEAL officer you have to be a real stud. I have been accepted to the Citadel and the Academy. NROTC and the Academy are both doable but they are very competitive.

First I'll talk about the Academy. Only the top of the line get into the Academy. This year over 15,000 applied and only 1500 will get letters. There is close to a 75 percent rate of graduation at the Academy. Everyone PTs almost everyday there and they are real studs. Only 16 of the guys from the Academy get the billet for SEALs upon graduation. It is super competitive.

Ok NROTC now. I have visited and been accepted to a few NROTC programs at colleges like the Citadel, VMI, and Texas A&M. The major concesus that I have heard is that a NROTC billet to BUDs is amazingly hard. You have got to be a superstar. They have all told me if you really want to be a SEAL and thats what your dream is you might just want to enlist. Cause it is almost impossible. Especially right now with our war on terrorism. Everyone at college and there brother wants the chance to stick it to 'em. I hope I get mine....lol
.
I am not trying to discourage you. I just want you to know what your in for. I have chosen the Academy and I know that I am in for a hard road. If you want it and try hard enough then you can do it. If you are more concerned with operations and stuff than maybe you might want to enlist. You won't get to do too much cool fun stuff while in a military program. The hardest thing probably will be to stay motivated. So if you are going to try for it you can't settle for anyhthing less and you have to want it more than anything in the world. You have to want it for more than just killing bad guys and combat diving. Good luck man!
