What do you guys know about Delta Force? I have a friend whose dad was a recon marine for 10 years and then was selected for Delta Force. He told me you basically get seletected and must be a very good soldier. You must also have a blackbelt. This unit is unofficial bla bla bla. Anybody wanna shed some light on what they do and how the operate?

Humm i thought delta is army not marines. And also i belive you need to be a ranger or beret not just be a "good soldier"

Delta is army, but you can be in another branch and get selected to Delta... You just become army.... It's mostly Green Berets and Rangers, some are from 82nd airborne. By the way this is another touchy topic...

it's BS, no one knows what all the requirements are for Delta, outside of the unit, and the unit is a non topic here.

there have been navy SEALs who have been in delta force. read eric haney's book on his career in delta force.

I think the biggest question we should all ask about Delta is why they don't serve peanuts anymore. I mean i payed 200 dollars for peanuts not some stupid snack mix. I think that this deserves our full and unrelenting attention.

Hey,

First let me say the part about having a black belt to be selected for DELTA is 100% false. That IS NOT one of requirements. DELTA or SFOD or CAG ( Combat Action Group ) gets about 65% of its men from one of the 3 Ranger Battalions. You have to be E-5 or higher and be on your 2nd enlistment in the military. DELTA recruiters go to military post and give briefings to soldiers that meet the requirements. As far as what exactly goes on during selections is not widely known. Each soldier signs a document that they will not openly talk about the activities engaged in during the selection phase. During my service with the 1st Ranger Battalion/ Aco we sent 4 guys to DELTA selection and out of the 4, 3 made it. One Ranger was injured. I do know that there is a PT test given, a water survival test, and lots of land navigation day/night. The soldiers do not know until the very last minute of the very last day that they have been selected for futher consideration to DELTA.

They also have a mental health test. My cousin (the greatest mind you) was an Army Ranger. He got selected for DELTA but then failed the mental health test. Asked him what he would do if there was a pregnant female terrorist. Told them he would shoot her through the belly and take out a future offender as well. Not quite the answer they were looking for, but he's also color blind, and I don't know if they can waiver that.

Craziest thing the other day I was looking in Walmart and saw these little DELTA force plastics "equipment things" different varieties of like canteens, k-bars, and such, but every single one of them had dog tags, I though the D-boys didn't wear dog tags as we don't claim them as ours if they get caught... just something I wanted to know

Do you understand how lame and old the saying for Delta, as in the airlines gets? Everyone knows Army Delta exsist, it's not to be DISCUSSED, but I have heard the lame Delta airline joke in refference to Army Delta so many times, till it just is not funny anymore.... Same with faucets... Can't anyone come up with something new other than what they steal off Special operations.com Message boards and the net?

I am absolutely positive... I wouldn't purposely lie to anyone. So unless he's lying to me, which I highly doubt, that was his answer. He's kind of crazy like that.

After reading a post about delta airlines and seal the animals about 1000 times the joke gets annoying.
I got a book called US Special Forces. It talks about Army Rangers, Delta Force, and Navy Seals. I found it interesting that every single picture with delta force guys training was from over 30 years ago. These guys are secretive as hell. Very little information available about them.

You MUST be in the Army to go Delta. If you are in another branch of the service you have to switch to at least the Army reserves or National Guard. If you are already Army you need to be of spec-ops blood, and if you transfer you had to be spec-ops in whatever branch you are in now. Then attend screening. If you pass screening, your journey has just begun.......

SEALs and Delta train together all the time. I imagine that they have exchange type programs too so you could actually be a member of a Delta team while still being a SEAL in the Navy without having gone through the Delta selection program. Think of Delta as a group of guys who come from a bunch a different places to operate together verses a mini-service like the SEALs.

Actually Smitty I think a couple guys here do know a little about Delta as I think some have worked with Delta. However, I suspect those guys are the last ones to actually say anything about them since yes delta does try to be extremely secretive.

Is Delta superior to the SEALs? Also, wouldn't it make sense for the "elite" teams such as the SEALs, Rangers, Force Recon, Green Berets to swap training methods/tactics/general knowledge? I understand that there are some things which are classified and not to be discussed, but at the same time, wouldn't pooling and diversifyng the experience of team members lead to an elite team that is more qualified to handle a diverse array of tasks and better prepared to meet any challenge?

DW.

p.s. Not that I get my info from Hollywood, but the character "Hoot" in Black Hawk Down, yeah, that Delt was a bad ***!

Though Delta is a branch of the army, I believe that they select the few best special force soldiers from all branches and combine them into a group..."All-star team if you will....Im sure there are SEALs, Rangers, Green Berets and Recon Marines incorporated into Delta Force.

PATHUS-

A word to the wise, my friend.

KEVIN is NOT a Navy SEAL, and never was. His advice, comments, and information are NOT endorsed, encouraged, NOR are they accepted by this community.

You should pose your questions to individuals like Wetwash, Wazz, SealPup, DirkD, Doug, Bullrider, et al. THEY have gone through the entire program and will be able to provide the best answers to your questions...

Sincerely,
