Hey!
I am currently new to the site, just wanted to say hey to everyone first of all. I am kind of in a dilema here with my eyes. I have wanted to be a Navy SEAL for a long, long time. I am now 1 year away from graduation and I will be able to join the Navy and sign up on the Seal challenge contract. There is only one problem, my eyes. The problem is that in my right eye, it is either border-line passing 20/70.... or possibly could be a little bit worse to the point of where I could fail. My left eye is 20/20, no problem there. I am almost right at 20/70 in my right eye, I might be a little bit better or worse... I don't know for sure yet. I dont want to let this little problem with my eye get in the way of my longtime dream and goal........ is there anything at all I could do for the time being to help straighten out my right eye to pass, besides wearing my glasses? Oh, and another thing, my recruiter said to me that SEAL candidates must have 20/20 vision, but I believe this site more cause it is dedicated to the SEALs. I realize that on the site it says that your eyes must me correctable to 20/20, which is o.k., cause I am correctable to 20/15. Any help would be greatly appreciated..... I am just worried that this thing could blow-up all of my goals and dreams of becoming a Navy SEAL. Really worried actually.....

Thanks A-Lot Guys,

- Joe

Im not a SEAl, but i have been looking into this as i have the same problem. I believe the current policy is that certian types of laser surgery (PTK) are acceptable for entrance into the special forces after a three month period. the navy actually has a website on this.

I am not a SEAL either, but I did have the PRK surgery done last September and I just received a waiver for BUD/S 2 weeks ago. The Navy used to only accept PRK, but they are now excepting LASIK as well, actually BUMED semms to be leaning towards LASIK more now, instead of PRK. But check with BUMED first or speak with a SEAL motivator that could help you out in this situation. Good Luck!

Where did you hear that? When I checked it said only PRK was accepted for special forces, and diving though LASIK was good for most.

When I was up at MEPS 2 weeks ago, they said that BUMED was approving waivers for LASIK, but that's why I said to check with a SEAL motivator or BUMED first.
