Well, first off, hi, im new here.
But, ive got a few questions. If i go to the Naval Academy, and graduate, can I become a SEAL and not get stuck doing paperwork? And then if I get into the SEALs, I would like to be part of the FBI HRT, then a SWAT officer in my city's PD. Is this do-able?

PS. I dont suppose John Carl Roat is part of this community?

Good to have you here...welcome

If you get a billet for BUD/S and graduate BUD/S, Jump School and SQT (SEAL Qualification Training), yes you will be a SEAL. You will not be stuck doing paperwork in the Teams. Officers only operate for a few years before moving into more of a leadership role within the Teams (i.e., planning, etc.). You will do operating and go on real-life operations as an officer or an enlisted man. Enilsted guys do more actual operating throughout their careers as a SEAL though.

And then if I get into the SEALs, I would like to be part of the FBI HRT, then a SWAT officer in my city's PD. Is this do-able?

While you are in the Teams (or the Navy in general) you are dedicated 100% to the Navy and the Teams. You can not be a member of the military and be an agent in anything for the FBI at the same time. Same thing with your city's Police Department. It is possible that after you get out of the military you could join the FBI and then have a good chance at being selected for the Hostage Rescue Team (HRT) with a SEAL background. Same goes for SWAT, but of course for either of those you must get hired/accepted by those entities forst (FBI or Police Dept) and take it from there. But if a SEAL is what you want to do, go for it and dont think too far ahead of yourself. Do NOT go to BUD/S with the attitude that you just want to be a SEAL to develop a nice resume for future endeavors. If you do, you WILL quit BUD/S training at some point (I Guaruntee it). You have to want to be a SEAL for the same of being a SEAL and want it more than anything at all if you want to make it through. Think about what direction you want to go in life....make a decision and COMMIT! Good luck with any decision you make!....

No clue on that one. Sorry........

Heh, sorry, I meant to say after I got out of the SEALs, then I would go on to HRT, blah blah blah.
John C. Roat wrote a good book, i just finished reading it, that is why I asked. So, if you are reading this, good job on the book!
Anyway, thanks for the info.

This is Mr. Roat's web page for the book. If you email him he will get back to you. Very nice guy. My father was one of his classmates.
