I play football as a tightend. So I am not the smallest person. When I had assperations of being in the Special Forces or SEALs I was VERY discouraged by seeing how hard they had to run. So I began the PT program a few weeks ago. I am only on Category I WEEK 5, but I am extremely surprised. Even If you were never a runner the program will get you there, I never thought I could run as well as I can now (still not great but getting up there with you guys). The first two-four weeks can be tough, but if you just push yourself and make it that far you will be extremely surprised at how much you have improved. You will be very, very amazed at how far you have come and you will see as I have that being in the Spec Ops community is no longer imposible. So for those of you that are worried about not making it because you are a bad runner or what not, just try it. If I can do it ANYONE can do it. That's what the military has said when I've asked them, if you want it bad enough and work for it you will get it. Never forget that.
Hope I didn't sound like a preacher cause I am only a sophmore in High School, but I just thought I'd try to encourage my peers who don't think they can make it, because they can.

hey i got a question how do you know how far you are jogging/running/swimming....
I am also in DEP, and I hope to become a SEAL. But even though I have reasonable enough time before shipping (aug 13 i believe is the date)..
I don't have a car to measure distance with, and my school's track is closed afterhours..

Buy a pedomiter. Sorry not sure how to spell it. There cheap and go around your belt and tell you how far you have run. And for swimming well find out how big the pool is and go from there if you feel like counting laps. I usually lose count some were in the 20's. As for open water well not sure how to help you there but im sure thay make some sort of watch device that can tell you.

If you dont have any way to tell how far you are running just run for amounts of time.... if you keep at a constant pace the you should get pretty far

One good way to find out how far you run and how much you are improving is to have a specific starting point, start running, and push yourself hard until you cannot run anymore. each week try and push yourself harder to run a further distance. i did that for a while and after about 3 months i found that i was running a lil over 7 miles a day. it doesnt seem so far out of reach when you dont think of how far you are actually running, that is how i feel i was able to run so much.

The official PT program tells you not to exceed 6 miles per day, 30 miles per week. Just decrease your time. When you start running such extreme distances, you start to burn muscle which is not what you want.

Thanks for the info Pathus, I always wondered why they set those guidelines, just never thought about asking. Anyways, thanks, and good luck to all those aspiring to be SEALs, I am right there with you, also being a sophmore in high school.

Derek, mang, I am a sophomore in high school, and if you want to be able to run, join your track team as I did.
Ow.
It's good **** man :) I have the "perk" of joining the team with my uncle being a track prodigy that coached my coach, so I "have good genes" and am expected to excel more...its fun :) My uncle was headed to the olympics, not sure which year but he got a blood clot in his leg and pulled a tendon or somthing like that and didn't get to go, but he was "even beating the black guys" So enjoy running and go for it.
