I need 39 credits to graduate college but I want to go to BUD/S after this semester. Do you think I should finish college which will take another year or go now?

Well, I'm not a SEAL and everyone has a different path to take in life, so I'll just give you a little insight into my dilema and my solution. I was in your situation about 3 years ago. I was going to enlist in the Navy and sign with the SEAL Challenge Contract. At that time I was in the middle of the Electrical Engineering Program here at UConn. One of my best friends was trying to get me to drop out and join the Navy. I knew that I really wanted to become a SEAL and that school would be just putting me off from that goal. But, I was worried about just dropping out of college, especially since I was already in. I made my decision to stay in school and finish up my degree. Well, I just finished the degree and I also just DEPed into the Navy last week. I am currently training until I leave on Nov. 12, 2003. For me, staying in school was one of the best decisions I made. I have many options both if I make it as a SEAL or if I don't. The extra schooling and time has made me feel as though I have an edge that I would not have had before. The decision is ultimately up to you. I believe in the end you will do what is best for you, but for me, finishing school was the way to go. Good Luck!

No contest. Finish college. Your career choices today and 20 years from now become maximised.

Wazz hit it right on. tGet all the Education you can while you can.. WHATEVEr you decide to do later in life, it will only help. A VERY high percentage of todays SEALs have some college, many have a four yr degree.

Tadpole, I'm not a SEAL and this is my first post ever on this site. I love this site!! But, I would definitely listen to sjr78. I was in the same boat until I read sj's response. Just think if you would happen to sustain a debilitating injury at BUD/S or if the SEALS just didn't work out for you. Would you rather have something to fall back upon or not?? Education is the key to living a great an happy life and once you have that degree, nobody can take it from you. Best of luck to you Tadpole in whatever choice you choose. I know I'm finishing up my 44 credits, plus it will give me some extra time to prepare for the demands in the Navy and hopefully BUD/S.
