Has anywho who has completed week 9+ of category 2 tell me about what the program has done to their bodies? I am curious as to whether the PT would put on muscle, or if running would burn off your gains. Swimming also seems good for building muscle. Any input would be appreciated from anyone who has used this program.

Pathus,

I have completed the phase you are interested in. The whole idea behind those exercises is not for you to get buff, rather gain the endurance and the strength. There is a correlation between all the things you have to do with the program. Depending on your body - since we're all different - you might gain some muscle by completing the program. It seems as though you want to get buff. Perhaps weights will do it. Let me know how it goes.

Hey Pathus,
The SEAL workout is designed for endurance and strength, not to really gain muscle mass for bulking up. In doing the SEAL workout, I have noticed that I have gotten really good muscle definition, but as far as muscle mass goes, I am not really gaining like say as a bodybuilder would. Hehe, but definately, I could do a lot more push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups, swimming, and running then any hardcore bodybuilder. The SEAL workout is based solely on endurance. If you want to be strong, have good definition, and be able to keep going and going and going like the energizer bunny...... do this workout cause it WORKS!! If you want to get huge with a lot of big bulky muscle, I would suggest working out with freeweights doing high weight/low repetition workouts. If you want to build mass go check out Arnold Schwarzenegger's Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding.....that sucker has everything! Hope I helped you some.

Also take into consideration calorie intake vs. calorie burn + diet + genetics.

Well, I plan on bulking up to about 170 and then going on the Official PT program. It will take me awhile to bulk up but I have at least 4 years of college before I enlist. One thing that is also good about the program, is that swimming and the PT exercises also target the smaller supportive muscles which make you stronger overall.

Ultimately, I want to hit category 2, week 9, and then start doing weighted dips/pullups. I will also continue to lift heavy with the four main mass exercises (military press, bench press, squats, deadlifts) to help maintain and increase my strength.
As an ecto-endomorph, I need to eat a **** load to gain the mass, but I have gained 17lbs of muscle so far so I can gain 30 more over the next year and a half or so.
