View Full Version : Why sidestroke in BUD/S training?
Of all the available swimming strokes to use in BUD/S training, why do they require the sidestroke?
It is called the combat underwater recovery stroke. The stroke has the lowest profile in the water when performed properly - low profile means it is hard to detect the swimmers - expecially if there is chop. We train in BUD/s the way we intend to fight in war - very little deviation besided what is required for safety. If the combat underwater recovery is what you would use on a clandestine insertion - then you had better train with it from the get-go.
