Whenever I tell someone that Iam going to try and become a SEAL in the Navy, keep telling me this, and I quote "your just kidding yourself, if you dont have it in contract, you'll never get in. They just lied to you" Is this true? I mean do I really have that bad of a chance to get in with no contract? I had a friend who was in the Army, and he wanted to be a Ranger, but it wasnt in his contract so they wouldnt let him do it and he says its the same way for the SEALs. What the hell is wrong with these people?

Well it depends really, I mean you can get into the SEALS through the SEAL contract and you can get into it through boot camp also. When you go to boot camp a few SEALs will be there and ask the group who want to try out for SEALS. You raise your hand and go through the screening test. If you make it, you will have to go to your fist call of duty depending on what job you have and the needs of the Navy. The boot camp way can take forever, maybe a few years before you get orders for Buds. The SEAL contract way, after you go to A-school, you will be sent to Buds.

Also, if your in the Navy already, go talk to your Counslers, they can get you sent to Buds also, but I`ve heard that can be a pain in the ***. Either way, if you have to wait a year or two to go to Buds, take advantage of it and work hard on getting in shape during that time. You will need to be. I`ve got over a year before I leave for the Navy, I`m busting my *** getting in shape. The better shape your in, the easier it will be for you in Buds.

Well even though I couldnt get the contract, I did however get a Hospital Corpsman rating. Other SEAL recruiters have told me that the SEAL teams are in need of more HM's so hopefully I have a better chance

wow, well i was under the impression that as long as someone in the Navy had the right scores, and was not over 27 they could go to BUD/s. Even if you are over 27 you can still get a waiver though..but i'm not too sure about your situation. You may have to wait a while to go but as long as you meet the physical requirements you should be able to go.

Iam only 17 years old, so I dont have a problem with age obviously. I met every qualification except for the scores. I dont think my ASVAB score as high enough for the contract. My recruiter told me I can retake the ASVAB while in the Navy so I can qualify for BUD/s.

Elmo,
Hit the books, there is nothing in the ASVAB that should be daunting to a reasonably proficient High School graduate. Keep you eye on the prize.

Ohh, I forgot, you also got to have higher than a 50 on your ASVAB. Most people can get higer than that, but I just thought I would tell you. I dont know if you can change that any af you get a low score after you get into the Navy. E-mail me if you have any more questions, I can help you out. magneto66@navyselas.com

Dont let people put you down because of your choice in wanting to become a SEAL. Or just being in the Navy or any other armed service. You wouldnt believe how many people used to make fun of it and never joined and now wish they did. Just like the Navy`s motto on their website, "If your life was a book, would anyone want to read it?'
Good Luck Man!

I recently signed up, and I had no problem getting the "SEAL challenge guarentee" on my contract. Along with a 5k bonus when I do indeed complete BUD/S.

Talk to them about it. They will tell you what you need, and what qualifications are needed in order to have it put in your contract.
