Is there any tatoos or whatsoever that ALL SEALs do?? Or like a necklace taht brings luck or whatever?
Or anything like it that all in a SEAL team does?
And, yes, I got the idea about the tatoo in a book by Tom Clancy

Is there any special with each SEALteam, or is it just the same, but with different AO's?

Besides, what is THE most important skill being a SEAL?

No.

Pure Hollywood there.

AO's are being phased out under NSW21.

ALL skils are most important, but if I had to say one it would be without a doubt the ability to function as a Team - it is the most basic skill and it is the skill that BUD/S is structured around...TEAMWORK...

On the subject of tattoos...What if, not saying i am gonna do this, but what is some guy was about to enter BUD/S and he got a Navy SEAL trident tattooed on his arm...would the instuctors look down on that in any way, or make it tougher for them since they obviously think they're good enough to get in since they got a tattoo of their insignia.

I no some one who joined the marines and before he went he got the Marine insignia on his arm well lets just say thay made his life VERY hard why because you have to earn the right to wear what ever it is you got tattooed on. So i can only imagine that 1 the BUDs intructors would be pissed and 2 your in there eyes you mess up there gonna make it worst on you and possibly your team. But i have a question concerning getting a tattoo. Could it be used as an identifying mark i mean you have a big eagle holding a gun and a pitchfork that says U.S NAVY SEALs i mean its not like it gonna be hard to figure out whos attacking them or what ever remember this is only if you get left behind but lets hope that never happens. Anyways enough of my rambling.

I can guarantee with near certainty that you will NOT graduate from BUD/S with a Trident tattoo. The instructors will make it a point to push you until you drop, fail out medically, or fail out academically. Trust me, it's bad enough as it is without any identifiers, or anything else to draw attention to you. You can do whatever you like once you earn the right, but take it one step at a time. Also, SERE school will be tougher on anyone with identifying marks, as will any enemy who may capture you. It'll be hard enough convincing them you are not a SEAL without having a big booby prize tattooed on your body.

Thats a really good point that hadn't occured to me. Makes alot of sense, they would (depending on who it is) execute someone satified with the thought that they had executed the first captured SEAL, ever. No one wants to be on that list.

First off, thanks for the answers..
Now, Swimmer2004: Are you sure not a single SEAL has been captured?

Thats what i have read/heard. Not one SEAL has ever been left in enemy hands. The only occasion i can think off of the top of my head, was Neil Roberts. His body was later recovered. But i don't think "captured" is the correct term for that circumstance. I don't really nkow a whole lot about the situation, just the article from this website. To all: Only the deepest respect for not only Neil Roberts, but any man or woman who has given their life for our freedom.

To all SEALs. Did any of your instructors at BUD/S have the insignia tattooed on themselves?

Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape. Incidentally, SEALs are far from the only ones who go through this type of training.

If anyone is hellbent on getting some kind of body adornment, there are a couple of things to remember:
1) it doesn't HAVE to be a Trident (or a seal or a frog) - there are thousands of designs out there and you can always make up your own. Any tattoo artist worth his/her salt will be able to copy your design. How about a Chinese character? It could mean something to you but otherwise be a 'pretty picture'.
2) if you're worried about the BUD/S Instructors (or anyone else, including moms) seeing it, have it done somewhere it isn't on show 24/7. I can think of a few places .. might hurt like hell having it done though.

What's the point of having a tatoo but not showing it??

Not much (unless it's something you really, REALLY want to do but it's also something which means your mother will disown you).
Your original question was about having a Trident done before BUD/S. Sure, but put it on your ankle or your butt, somewhere not immediately on view to Instructors. You know it's there, you got it, it's your little secret.
There again, you may not want to have a Trident somewhere you can't show it off 'at some later time' hence my suggestion about something else, like a Chinese character. Could be the Chinese word for seal - my Chinese isn't that hot so I wouldn't have a clue what it meant, to me it'd be a pretty picture.

Then, if and when you graduate BUD/S, you can make plans to go back and get that Trident done in permanent ink.

The BUD/S instructors perform health and welfare inspections during Hell Week, during which every inch of your body is examined for cuts, scrapes, bruises, infection, etc. I wouldn't advise putting anything permanent on your body until you earn it.

Why would you want to have a Trident on your *** that you haven't earned? What does it do for you, besides remind you every day that you're still NOT a SEAL? And when they do finally see it on your ***, it's not gonna be good that you've been hiding it. Too ashamed to 'fess up? Just earn the damn Trident.
