I want to be a SEAL. I train and am in great shape. Gonna join the Navy at Eighteen, and go to the Teams. But some people say that its to much commitment and is basically just not worth it. Im 16 am 5' 8'' and weigh 130. but have lots of endurance. I run, swim, do pushups, pullups, situps, and dips. Im kind on the lean side and take a lot of crap. But does that matter? Some people say you have a certain weight to be a SEAL. What is it ,if there is one? I've checked all the Navy sites and can't find it. Since Im only 16 the recruiters don't tell me much. So if theres a SEAL or someone who knows one out there in message board land please respond.

Hi SEALtobe...I am not a SEAL but have rubbed elbows with them. They are a tight community and if you have what it takes to become one of the finest warriors our nation can field then good for you!! You sound as if you have the physical part of it under control but take warning!! The mental toughness and strength of will to never quit are what really make a SEAL(plenty of"bronzed gods" wash out I hear because they cant take the cold or misery of BUD/S) Plenty of qualified guys dont make the cut because they lack the MENTAL strength to tough it out. From my perspective if you do follow through on this you must understand that SEALs are ALWAYS prepared to go to combat and I mean at all times-as long as you are a SEAL(active duty) you are expected to be ready to fight no excuses accepted and that is a real strain on all SEALs when it comes to having families. Some weather it but most dont.Thats the bit about commitment. YOURE COMMITTED!!! :>
P.S. As for weight limits Ive never heard of one for TOO light!!If you can do all of your P.T.(Pull-ups and push-ups most important) nobody should bother you! Good luck!

THE RECRUITS WHO SUCCEED IN SEAL (BUD'S) TRAINING ARE SIMILAR TO YOU IN PHYSIQUE - HIGH ENDURANCE, LEAN, STRONG AND CAN TAKE A LOT OF CRAP. THE BIG BODYBUILDERS AND HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL STARS OFTEN DO NOT MAKE IT BECAUSE THEY ARE EITHER TOO VAIN AND CAN'T STAND TO SEE THEIR BODIES BREAK DOWN TO NOTHING (ONLY TO BE BUILT INTO A SEAL LATER) OR ARE USED TO BEING THE STAR AND ARE NOW A LOWLY TRAINEE WITH AN INSTRUCTOR SCREAMING IN THEIR FACE DAILY. ALSO - THE ABILITY TO SWIM WELL AND, MOST IMPORTANTLY, TO ENDURE THE COLD WATER FOR MONTHS ON END - WILL ENSURE SUCCESS.

Hey! I am 17, and about to graduate highschool after my senior year here and go for the SEAL challenge contract. I also suggest you look into it also. I know, as well as you do it is a HUGE commitment to be a SEAL, a commitment you have to be ready to undertake! If you want this bad enough like I do, you gotta tough it out, do whatever it takes to get in there, and do not quit. Do not worry about your weight, I am 5'11 and 165 pounds and I am pretty lean. The thing that I have noticed is that the bigger muscular guys do not have as much endurance usually as us leaner guys, so don't let that keep you down. It takes ALOT of endurance! That is a key factor to the SEALs. So dont take being lean as a bad thing, take it as more of a gift that will help you achieve more physically. Take things a little bit at a time and sooner or later you will achieve great barriers. The only easy day, is yesterday.... as the SEALs say it! -Casey
