Plus he has my praying granny hitting her knees for him.
By the way GF... did you know that you and I have ALOT in common? We really do...except one thing... I'm an old fart!!.. LOL.. Both Christians, both of us are hunters and outdoor country people. My fathers side of the family is from Greene County Alabama, Demopolis & Selma, since Before the Civil War. In fact, one of my ancestors A.B. Speed Served in the 6th Alabama Regiment (survived). My Uncle was born there also and got his Engineering degree from University of Alabama - Roll Tide Roll... My Grandpa married a Mississippi Girl from across the river back in 1925.

As the song goes.. I'm a Grandson of the SouthLand.. There's a hundred years of down home running through my blood..

Yes it is! I met a lady on Socnet who lives in Texas. However, her family started there after the civil war. Her GR8, GR8 Grandpa came from Laurens County South Carolina. Guess where I live? Laurens County South Carolina. I did a bunch of running around for her and found a bunch of her family gravestones and even homesteads! It was a fantastic time running around for her and finding all this stuff. I had to hit about 4 different cemeteries to find the family members. Go figure ~ we are talking 100 to 130 years back and some cases more. Her ancestor that I coudnt find - YET - is a Revolutionary war soldier. He is buried at some unknown cemetery around here. He died somewhere's around 1790 or early 1800..

And.. little trivia for all of you.. DID You know that DOC HOLIDAY.. the Western Gun fighter was possibly born in Laurens South Carolina. His Parents were definately from here, records say he was born in Georgia but they are not sure. His age at death doesnt jive with the time that the parents moved from South Carolina to Georgia.

AND.. President Andrew Johnson who became President after Lincoln was shot had a tailor shop in the square in downtown Laurens around 1840. There are records in this Courthouse for both of these things I'm talking about. This was built around 1850, and is STILL being used for some County Government business. Most of the Court business is at the new Annex.. which only opened a couple of years ago!! Think about it - 150 Year old Court House.. in Great shape still in use... Beautiful building too. In front of this Courthouse to my right is where they "Estimate" that President Johnson had his tailor shop. It was before many of the buildings in the square were built and before this Courthouse was built (by 10 years).

(Ill upload picture of courthouse later)

Out of consideration for those poor folks who are still on dial up connections, could you possible make the larger pics into thumbnails. The larger they are, the longer it will take for the page to load.

No, I'm not on dial up! I'm just thinking of those who still are.

Thanks,
Shar

Yea, definately a good ole Southern Boy. My Grandmother (passed away now) use to tell me about juggin for catfish on the river.. They'd use the glass milk jugs (big ones). She caught a 45lbs catfish one night with my Grandpa on the river .. what is the River called there anyway? I havent been back since the GR8 grandparents died. They were both 103+, and this was in the 1960's... They had houses slap dab in the middle of Selma, even during the riots.

Oh, today? I spent my day cleaning a ton of grapes... cooking them down because tomorrow I make my Jelly! I have Mars Purple Seedless for one batch.. and my favorite.. Concords for the other. I also have a huge Strawberry patch and have to get my stuff out of the freezer to make my Strawberry jam... and all the Wild Blackberries I put up too... Lots and lots of jelly to make....I give about 75% of it away to friends and coworkers..

Oh I know all about catfish jiggin'! My pawpaw used to take me when I was little, and he was able. I hadn't thought about that in a long time. Sweet memories. My mom went with us once and agreed to camp out. She's a non-camper. About midnight we were checking the lines and she came barreling down the side of the hill, breaking branches and screaming she had seen some eyes looking at her. bahahaha Man, that was funny. Needless to say, she went home and picked us up at daybreak.

Those are things that you should pass on to your kids and grandkids. I have alot to pass onto my grandkids. My grandson Donovan is still real young (1 year old), so I cant take him hunting yet! I want to be able to show him how to pan for Gold and what to look for. I want to be able to take him out camping too. I'm not getting any younger (i'm 50 now) and I'm trying to take good care of myself. I have 2 Granddaughters too, they might want to learn how to do those things too.. who knows? I'd love to retire to Alaska, that would be fun! I can survive (my wife would hate it though) and make an easy living. Heck, she just got back from Fairbanks 4 days ago. She was helping with the new grandbaby.. when my Son in law (whos in the Army) took her off the base finally to show her around.. Sheila had him pull over by a wash out.. she got out and found a nice piece of Gold running through a rock! She learned well from the master!!!:D

First thing she did was get on the phone and call me to tell me what she found.

BTW..do you need my address for some of that jelly? haha

I'd looove to go to Alaska. We want to take our honeymoon somewhere cold. Alaska would be great!! That is, if we even get one. The Navy can mess with the best plans. I'd LOVE to go prospecting! You'll have to give me some tips if we get to go.

Hey have you ever been hunting in Texas? My brother goes to San Angelo several times a year and has invited me to go with him this year.

Well if you go to Alaska then you can prospect! Try to get around Fairbanks, but man, there are so many good places up there. That would be neat ~ go on your honeymoon and find enough Gold to pay for it. LOL

I would love to give you some of my jelly! If you somehow get over around South Carolina i will give you a bunch! I even have Raspberry, WildBlackberry, Grape, Strawberry.. All that i've either grown or went out and picked! Ill see if I can find some pictures for you.

Nope, never hunted Texas. Only Southeastern United States. Since I grew up in Florida I mostly hunted Wild Hogs there. I'm still trying to find the picture of the big 'un I got about 18 years ago. He went about 350lbs and was meaner than Snot.. had 6inch cutters and took 5 shots out of my Mossberg 12 gauge Pump... 3" -Triple 000 Mangum Buck, 32Inch full choke barrell... he just kept shaking like them big ole pellets were stinging him! The last shot I dropped the shotgun in the mud/water and pulled out my .357 and started to level down on him and he just fell over sideways.. Thank GOD! Took me and Johnny (my buddy) who also shot a small Shoat (100lbs) about 8 hours to drag them both off the island (Hog Island).

But ~ that wasnt the Biggest Pig I ever got. He was just one of the meanest.. the biggest hog I got was a sow up in Lake City Florida in the Osceloa Management area. Went almost 500lbs.. we figured about 450-475. We got about 300+ of meat out of that one.. the hams were enormous and had to be cut into 3 hams.

But, I cant do that kind of hunting anymore. Not that i dont want to but I'm getting more disabled and its frustrating as heck. I have a 4wheeler but still have to go where I can drive it. If I go up and down the hills and mountains around here i'm in trouble if I shoot something. Two years ago I shot a nice buck but I had to drag that sucker up and over 2 monster hills. But, I did it. I PAID for it dearly too! LOL.
