I recently had a very troubling encounter with what my local (not going to say any names...DENVER!) media said. It made me want to throw my protein shake through the T.V., and then proceed to throw the T.V. out my window, then run it over. Twice. Without further ado, here is the very oft-quote of a reporter:

"It appears that Barack Obama is more popular with the American public on the important issues of health care, economy, and education.....blah.....blah....blah............... ..........blah.. John McCain is ahead of his opponent on the less impotant issues of keeping this country free of terrorism and the oil crises......blah blah.........."

LESS IMPORTANT ISSUE OF KEEPING THIS COUNTRY FREE OF TERRORISM ?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!!?!?!? i am not a republican or a democrat. I am a realist. And if we don't keep this country free of terrorism, then we have NO health care or economic policies to worry about.....

regardless, i had a TREMENDOUS workout after hearing this ;)

I suggest you move to Colorado Springs. They're conservative here. However, you also have to put up with the fact that they're full of themselves and have a HUGE stick up their butts. Trying to find a job in this town is impossible unless you were a) born here b) a member of the El Pomar foundation or c) related to someone in city government.

In other words? TRADE YA. I'm beginning to HATE this town.

Why do you think my wife made me put my guns in the locked metal gun cabinet? She says I'm too much of a darn Redneck, Conservative to watch liberal TV and have Firearm readily available.

I don't have any guns - but if someone were to be listening to me (since I live alone) they would think I was a raving lunatic -- because I yell and swear at commentators. But as 1toast said I have been very tempted to throw something at the screen. :0

Lol its a good thing the guns in my house are locked up too ;)

But some people need to think before they speak.....actually, correct that: A LOT of people need to think before they speak....

Don't get me wrong. I agree with keeping the country free of terrorism. I'm just tired of the conservative whack jobs in this city who allow the DA to drink and then drive a government vehicle, keep his job and have the country sheriff support him on a telephone drive or allow 2 cops to break the law and then retire with full pension.

American media has hurt this country more than it helps it. The biggest problem with this is that they think they are doing good.

Well, you have to also understand that we have one of the few uncensored press corps in the world... (However, you might also want to read my post about that 50 cent piece too...)

But how do you keep a country free of terrorism? You cannot neglect health care, the economy, and eduction.Without these there would be no nation to protect against terrorism. Also, who says our anti-terrorism plans have worked? I think it was just poor wording from a news reporter. It is all semantics.

I wouldn't worry about it Shar, everyone forgets about Colorado Springs eventually. :) The original post was about Denver and the liberal journalism that goes on there (thanks be to God) because the rest of the state is so incredibly conservative. The people here are so conservative they've stopped breathing and are past being blue, they're purple (I'm hoping blue is the conservative color, I can never keep that stuff straight.)

I'm pleading ignorance here: I recognize the trident and the diver's pin but what are the rest of those pins on the top of the page?

Ty, Shar. :) Spec Ops Free Fall. How is that achieved? I ask only because Mikey DID spec ops. Does it mean Halo?

You're welcome. The Spec Ops Free Fall was my best educated guess. I know it isn't the Naval Parachutist Pin and I also know that Tom Rancich has the following qualifications:

Naval Special Warfare Officer (Navy SEAL, 1130), Navy Surface Warfare Officer (1110), Naval Special Operations Officer (1140), Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician, Basic Diving Officer, Naval Parachutist, Special Operations Freefall Parachutist

I'd also say HAHO over HALO, but that's just another guess on my part.

Interesting read. Are you posting this because you stand in agreement with his ideas? Or because you know him and want to share the information?

It is an interesting read, as I said. But, in my opinion he is a bit off-the-mark on a few points. But, of course, it is my opinion, and his book is HIS opinion.

I paid the 10 bucks and downloaded it. I was worth it even if I don't agree completely.

Also, who says our anti-terrorism plans have worked? I think it was just poor wording from a news reporter. It is all semantics.

Well, you also have to understand that Colorado is a very conservative state. It was founded by Ranchers (ironic pun, huh?) and as such they tend to trust few and desperately try to hold onto all they have. For years Governor Lamb had this mindset. As such he refused to widen I-70 which goes through the mountains. ("if you DON'T build it, they WON'T come.") So, it really isn't semantics from the point of a person who grew up in Colorado (which I am not, but I know many of them...)

So, a newscaster in Denver is being liberal? That is a HUGE step forward for this state. Time was that newscaster would have lost his/her job. Here in Colorado Springs, s/he still probably would. Seriously.

As far as protecting the stuff INSIDE a protected country? Well, it comes down to priorities. If you don't have money left over once you're done protecting your countries boundaries (which we soon won't have given that the deficit is now over, 500 billion dollars)then, yup, all those things are going to be neglected.
