I've heard a few rumors now about HBO doing a BUD/S documentary project on Class 273 similar to the one done about Class 234 that just about everyone here has seen on the Military Channel. Additionally, word is that some "professional athletes" will go through the training along side them.
Frankly, I find the second rumor to be rather difficult to swallow. The nature and specifics of this training are rather guarded information, if not classified altogether. I wouldn't think that the Navy would need to make this allowance for the sake of publicity. But then again, I'm not in the loop and wth do I know after all?
Anyone know anything about this at all?

I emailed HBO about this over one month ago to ask them directly, but never received a response. I don't know how else to find out.

Oh geez... the SEALs are going to be publicized again? They are getting way to much coverage. I liked it back when they used to be a little more on the low low.

With NSW doing a lot more recruiting in different venues to attract candidates for BUD/S simply because Navy SEALs are a hot commodity in the War on Terrorism and more SEALs are always needed. I wouldn't doubt that they would let HBO follow class 273 around and do some filming, I doubt "professional athletes" will also train with the SEAL candidates. I am betting most SEALs think that it's BS and that a TV show isn't going to produce more SEALs, the desire to truly be a SEAL produces SEALs, also I am one of many people who don't get HBO in the first place. Personally if I was NSW I would recruit and continue to recruit from extreme endurance events, and maybe some CrossFit gyms.

You know swab...I don't think any amount of pre-training...or prep...is
gunna change the numbers much....BUD/S get's the job done everytime!! It weeds out the posers!!
Nothing like a swarm of active duty TEAM GUYS......making sure the fraternity....is stronger with each added BUD/S grad.....and they put the HEAT on....nothing in the world like it!!!
This post by bud/s 184 speaks volumes.

Keep in mind: from 1992 to 2000 SOC had to go begging for money... Making films is one way they did it...

FYI.....
I have a family member who went through a BUD/s class that was in the early 250's range.
The rumor back then was that there was going to be another documentary like there was for class 234 on the Discovery channel.
So, this rumor that HBO might be doing something really isnt something new. It may or may not be true, I am just saying that a few years ago when the classes in the low 250's were going through BUD/s the talk was another one was to come out soon as well.

Trust me...you're better off for it and not missin much
The system at BUD/s works...I dunno why they would even allow a "pro athelte" to go through

It takes more than that...

all this extra special recruiting and NSW only had a net gain on 1 SEAL in 07
hmmmm? numbers are better physically but if you dont have it mentally it really doesnt matter. they have ad div1 college and olympic athletes not make and guys who can barely pass the PST breeze through training. you have to be in shape physically but mentaly either you have it or you dont either you WILL or you will NOT.
any who, i will be in 273 and have heard nothing of HBO documentary, i know they interviewd some guys in 272, but did not get the answers they wanted so maybe that project got scrapped.
