Hello everyone. My son has just classed up and I was wondering what kinds of things he will be doing and what kinds of info I can expect? He is doing BCT now and I know there are 2 weeks of indoc. Will he still have nights and weekends off? How much does the regimen change when he gets finished with indoc?

Lots of questions and really looking forward to the answers. Thanks

Hi, and welcome. I am not a SWCC mom, so unfortunately I don't have answers about what he is up to....hopefully a SWCC mom or wife will stop in and have some info for you! I just wanted to give you a hello from another mom!

Welcome! I too cannot help, but hopefully swcc-wife will be on here and answer for you. She's a wealth of knowledge :)

The guys that were in BCT when I was in BUD/S still had weekends and nights, although sometimes they were out kind of late, not quite sure why. I saw them swimming in the ocean once, have seen them at the CTT a few times, and know they start using Zodiacs in BCT. They also have black Friday during BCT. I have a buddy who used to be a boat guy, so if I see him around I'll ask him, or SWCCwife can chime in.

Did somebody call me? Hehe, just kidding :)

Slgbaby, the regimen will change quite a bit when they transition from Indoc to BCT.
Indoc is sort of a preparatory course; they will learn how things are done and what is expected of them. But once BCT starts, that's when the going get's really tough. BCT is very much a physical test.

Here is an excerpt from the Official SWCC Website (www.swcc.navy.mil/swcc (http://www.swcc.navy.mil/swcc)) regarding BCT:

"The SWCC Basic Crewman Training is five weeks long. Physical conditioning with running, swimming, and calisthenics grows harder as the weeks progress. Students' abilities, mental fortitude and teamwork skills are tested during an arduous 72 hour long evolution involving little sleep, constant exposure to the elements, underway boat and swimming events, and a test of navigational skills and boat tactics. SWCC students participate in weekly timed runs, timed obstacle course evolutions, pool, bay and ocean swims, and learn small boat seamanship."

Besides that generic description, your son will spend a lot of time after class maintaining his gear, and he will probably be so tired during the week that he won't want to do much of anything but sleep. But, the weekends will be his to do whatever he pleases. :)

Thank you for helping out.

SWCC-wife, thanks for the info. I have read all the descriptions just wondered how it worked "real world" or should I say "my real world"...LOL!
I was so excited for him on Monday that I could barely sit still. I think I drove my husband crazy. I might even have been more excited than my son!!
He text'd Monday night to tell me he was finished with the first day. That was the first indication that they had evenings off. I guess I was thinking I wouldn't hear from him for 7 weeks.

Y'all are great to put up with a mom like this. I am just so proud of him!

Ahh, I see. I thought you were wondering what it was going to be like for him.

But for you? Well, that's definitely something I know a LOT about! :D

You can expect to hear from him often, possibly even everyday. However, once BCT starts, don't expect many long winded conversations during the week. His calls will be short, and he will be able to give you a run-down on exactly how much the O-Course sucks, lol. He will be very tired during the week, but he will have time to recuperate over the weekend. And, just a word of advise, the guys like to spend as little time as possible at the schoolhouse over the weekend. They need that "escape from reality", hehe. So, he will have plenty of time to call you over the weekend. So, I would say you should at least be able to talk to him twice a week. When my husband was in SWCC School, he called me everyday- every morning before work, and almost every night after work (some nights he would just have too much stuff to do so he would text me goodnight instead). He would give me a quick summation of the days' "activities". Many times our conversations would start with him saying, "Man, we got our asses beat today", and would end with him saying, "Baby, I'm hurting and I'm tired. I'm gonna go to bed." So, I'm sure your conversations with him will be quite similar. :)
Good luck to your son, and keep us posted :)

Ok...Talked to my son again tonight. He said they lost 3 more guys. That makes 6 now. I didn't think they would lose this many so soon, is the normal? He sounded really good and said he was enjoying it with the few "some things sucked". I am so proud of him!!!

Just wanted to say Congrats to your son for making it this far! It is amazing to see your child persevere in these programs. Sorry I can't really answer your question since my son went through a different program but it is all pretty challenging so it doesn't really surprise me.

He is in his first week of BCT now. He said it was the most challenging thing he has ever done in his life physically or mentally! He is doing well just tired. I will be happy to get to talk to him this weekend so he can tell me all the poop...LOL

That's great news! The first week is always a shock, I remember when my husband finished his first week after indoc. It was his second time being there, and even knowing what was coming he still was wiped out.

Ma'am,

Coming from this side, make sure you are positive for him, when I went through I had my father calling me buggin me about stupid things, my wife had to call him and tell him that I cannot talk to him anymore. A family member can be the greatest asset in the world, but it can also drag you down. Every wife will tell you that you can be very helpful or hurtful, just remember the problems will still be there after 7 weeks. Once in CQT it is easy to manage them at that time, and thank god for my wife, with out her it would have been harder.
