Quick question for you guys...
I just got commissioned out of NROTC and have orders to dive school in September. I'm just wondering if those who have been through the training pipeline could give me some info on housing. Do most single officers stay at the BOQ in Panama city? What about at Eglin? Do most officers in EOD training seek off-base housing during this period?
Thanks in advance for the help

Hey, congrats on getting into the pipeline. I was commissioned through NROTC as well and I will be graduating EOD school next month. Since dive school is so short, all married officers come by themselves to dive school and then have their dependents move down once they reach EOD school.
You will be at the BOQ the entire 9 weeks at dive school. At Eglin, you will have to find a place to live outside of base. I recommend registering at www.ahrn.com and finding a place to live there. All renters are military friendly and most have pretty reasonable monthly rent rates.
You have several areas to choose to live at: Niceville, Destin, Shalimar, or Fort Walton Beach. Some guys I know live in Crestview, but that's pretty far. Most guys live in Destin or Niceville. The only thing is that if you decide to live in Destin you are going to have to pay toll to cross the midbay bridge to go to school. I live in Shalimar and I like it because it's halfway between the school house and Destin. You might want to look into rooming with some of the fellow O's that go to dive school with you. Good luck with the pipeline.

Not to get to far off topic but there is limited info on here for the O side of the house. What were you guys screen scores if you dont mind. I am trying to get a package in for the board and I know I can always improve, just didnt know what they are looking for at the moment.

Not sure what scores exactly they are looking for, but when I took the PST for my package my scores were:
Swim: 8:45
Pushups: 100ish
Situps: 100ish
Pullups: 25
Run: 8:15
But it all really depends on how you compare to the other NROTC applicants for that year. I was told last year that there are 6 slots for NROTC applicants per year. Although this could have changed
Anyway, hope that helps

szissou,
My scores were as follows for my initial screening score. I applied in 2006, so things might be different now.
Swim: 9:45
Push Ups: 95
Situps: 95
Pull ups: 15
Run: 9:15
ustcc...I think your info might be wrong because I went on navy personnel command and on the EOD link it said that for fiscal year 2008, they chose 17 from NROTC/STA-21
My year I was competing for a total of 15 slots.

Yeah, my source for the number of NROTC slots could very well have been outdated... thanks for clearing that up.
Also Szissou, keep in mind that they are looking for a well-rounded individual... so factors like GPA and leadership potential also play a big role in the selection process.

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum, but I do have a bit of "inside knowledge" on the EOD selections for officers this year. Take it for what it's worth to you.
This year there were 15 academy billets and 15 NROTC billets, and about 4 total from STA and Lat transfers combined. They only filled 14 billets from the academy because of the quality of the rotc applicant pool.
I would second that the "total person" is what they are looking for, PT scores are very important, but leadership experience, ability to speak in front of a selection panel, and academic ability play a crucial role as well.
