My family is planning on visiting our relatives overseas. Seeing that my plans for the near future are heavily going to affect my life I would like to go while I have the chance.

My question is will visiting a country in the Mid-East within, say, 6 months of enlistment have any effect on the enlistment process, security clearance, etc.? And if so, what kind?

I suspect that it will not, although it will have to be declared on my paperwork complete with the dates I was away. But I'm asking to see if I can get a definitive answer for myself and anyone else who may be wondering. Thanks.

It won't affect you negatively necessarily, but you WILL be questioned about it.

I went to India a few weeks before I went into the Naval ROTC unit at USC.

While there, I had to fill out a security clearance form and on it, it specifically asks you what foreign countries you've been to within the last 6 years.

I had been to India every year in those past six years, and I got an interview with one of the government's employees regarding my visits.

I can't tell you what they're going to ask you, but know you will get questioned about it

I would check. It could very well affect your security clearance depending upon what level you will be required to have. PM me if you are going to have to have a TS or SIOP.

Yes it will, it will have to be included in the SF-86. Depending on which country it is, what your family ties are, background, previous travel, etc..... it may or may not affect you, but so close to enlistment, during the war, actually 6 months before enlistment......not favorable.

I'm not saying they're gonna deny your clearance, it might pass through without any problems, but at the very least, it's gonna take longer to verify your info and investigate what you listed....I have a "similar" situation....avoid it if you can.

PM inbound.
