i have a question regarding corpsman. when i was in the marine corps. we were always treated by naval personel whenever it involved anything medical. i have a new neighbor that claims he was a marine. first he says he was a "medic". i wasn't familiar with any MOS in the Corps with the title "medic". he then claimed he was recon. his stories seem to be very inconsistant. but before i really educate him i want to insure my dope is squared away. please correct me if i'm wrong but, as a dept. of the navy, the marine corps. relies on naval corpsman for all and any medical treatment, correct?

I think your neighbor is full of it and never served a day in his life. I just got out in 06 and it was still navy corpsman. I have buddies who are still in. Trust me, something like that and I am sure I would have heard of it. Why educate him if he is a poser. The guy is a peice of crap.

thank you for your reply. i was pretty certain this guy never served. i was just trying to be nice. but enough is enough. when he tried telling me he was recon, that was to much. i just can't understand why people lie about stuff like that. my boss and i recently came across a guy who was bragging about being a seal. the fact that he was making it puplic when nobody asked him is suspect.

When I was in Navy, on very rare occasions I would see a Marine uniform walk by with a tan and green HM patch on the shoulder. They weren't technically Marines, but

Not to say this guy isn't BSing, but there were field Corpsmen in the Navy so attatched to, and accepted by, their Marines that the Marines (individuals, not the organization) considered them Marines. In fact, as a field Corpsman, I would think this would be something to strive for.

Changing his story midstream may be him trying to cover a lie. Or it could be him trying to put it in as simple of terms as possible initially, and explaining more as he discovers your knowledge level. Even Recon Marines need medics, and the Marines don't have any of their own, so the Navy provides one.

I guess what I'm saying is no, if he was a Corpsman, he was not technically a Marine. But he may be being sincere in saying he was a Marine because if he was attatched to Recon, he probably did have the commitment and drive to be accepted by, and feel a part of, his Marines.

The Navy provides all medical treatment for the Marines. There are blue side corpsman and green side corpsman. Blue side are those in the hospital, ships, clinics, teaching billets etc. Green side (the men)lol are with the Marines and are just as much Marines as thoughs that went through the crucible. All units within the Marine Corps have corpsman assigned most corpsman with them are 8404 and those with recon or MARSOC are 8427 or SARC (Special Amphibious Reconnaisance Corpsman). There are even corpsman assigned to the scout snipers as well. If you want numerous amount of options as far as where to go and what unit, be a corpsman you have to chance to be with anyone from SAR, RECON, SWCC, SEALs, Dive, EOD, snipers, SEABEES, etc. Great job and I swear I'm not bias.

Oh and you can be under Marine Corps regs and wear most of their uniforms as well except for the dress uniforms. But damn does that become a pain to keep up with all the uniforms!!
