I think my biggest fear, and I'm sure everyone shares in this, is failing BUD/s. Like everyone else I have no intention of quiting but I know the statistics. I will be giving up a great career to pursue this and would hate to be stuck on a battle ship for the next four years. If I get dropped for whatever reason, what is the rule on going through BUD/S again? I know many have made it on their 2nd and 3rd try, do you have to wait a certain amount of time before you can class up again and is there a maximum number of times you can try?

Well I am in this situation myself. I was a rollback from one class to another and I made it to tuesday of helweek and got rolled for sipe. After that i classed up with the next class and i went to hellweek once again and i DOR'ed monday night. Needless to say I carried on with my life trying everyday to go back to BUD/s. I was trying to get orders back to BUD/s no more then 4 months after I quit. If in knew the right people and people wernt so neg toworards the "BUD/s Duds", as they like to so nicely put it, i would have made it back in less then a year. But Its been little over a year since i quit and I am just now being able to put my package together with the help of my LPO. Its not a easy journy to get back, alot of people think about themselves and the man power they need to support the command instead of your personal goals and dreams. I suggest if this happens to you, show your command that you are a **** hot sailor and you are motivated both mentally and physiclly. You want the CMC to look at your package and know who you are and what you have done for this command and not have to question his decision to sign off on your package. Alot of people have quit BUD/s and became the worst sailors ever and no1 will ever sign off or put there name on that chit.

As Shady8Dozen is basically saying ~ its about "The Needs of the Navy" not about personal desires or wants. Its doesnt matter that its the most important thing in the world to you or has been since you were 2 years old. It matters ONLY what is good for the Navy...Which is as it Should be. The needs of the Navy MUST come first.
When I was on the phone with my detailer trying to sweet talk her into Antigua (yea, I tried).. the needs of the Navy came before my personals wants and desires...and boy did I and every other Sailor desire duty in Antigua!
He said it best - Show your Command you are the best Sailor you can possibly be! Otherwise you can flush that special request chit down the crapper because anything above the 2nd line isnt going to get a signature!
Moral of the story ~ dont sabotage yourself before you even begin. I said this before Bud/s 184 even see's this post because I guarantee you if he does ~ boy ~ you are gonna get railed....and son... if he does, just sit there and take it... he is a Navy SEAL... he's got the cred's.
Dont talk about Quitting, dont talk about dropping out. QUITTING SHOULD NOT IN YOUR VOCABULARY IF YOU ARE EVEN THINKING ABOUT BECOMING A NAVY SEAL!!! RE-EVALUATE!!!!

Well I certainly have no intention of giving up until I become a SEAL, even if that means failing my first attempt and having to come back to do it again. I imagine every kid who ever went to BUD/S had the same I will never quit attitude as I do, but until I've BTDT and really know whats it all about I can only hope but not assume that I'm better than the other 80% who fail. For me it's about being ready for any challenge I'm presented with like injury, or performance drop and how I can persevere and come back to triumph. So no, quitting is certainly not in my vocabulary.

AAAAARRRGGGGGG You did it again Mantis! Before you even typed your first period the word FAILED was typed. You cant think like that. You MUST HAVE A SUCCESS MINDSET. Its not about thinking you are better than 80% of the guys yada yada yada... THIS IS ABOUT YOU! YOU MUST TELL YOURSELF YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE IT - PERIOD.
Right now though, yes, its ALOT of doubt is STILL in your mind AND in your vocabulary. You MUST get this squared away. You are thinking TOO much.
Bud/s 184... where are you ? Sorry Mantis...you were a such a nice guy...LOL Are there any hand rails close by? Good, grab on....:D

Well getting my doubt squared away is why I'm here and not in my recruiters office signing a contract yet. And don't worry, I'm bracing myself.

Here's what I've always been told from the BTDT's
If you decide to go to BUD/s, go there to GRADUATE!!
Don't go to BUD/s with the mindset of "trying it out," or "the possibility of failing"
That mindset better be canned LONG before you head to BUD/s!!!
You go to BUD/s to graduate and become a US Navy SEAL.
You don't go to BUD/s to consider graduating.
By doing this you are blue falconing the next guy, like me, who already has a no quitting mindset.
I'm on my way to get to BUD/s as an officer, we can't have guys like you taking up slots of other people who KNOW they are not going to quit.
POINT: GO TO BUD/s TO GRADUATE!!

Which is why I am not committing until I am 100% confident. And good luck, I am envious.

Failure is not an option.
I know you have all heard that before. This thread calls for a reminder I think.

My husband went back after being there the first time and got dropped post hell week. It makes for a long journey, but do not give up. It was hard for him to get back, he spent 2-3 years (don't know exactly how long) in the fleet before going back again. I remember visiting him in FL right before he left for BUD/s the second time and touring his ship... everyone was congratulating him on getting to go again, and told him not to come back, lol! It was great seeing how happy he was leaving that ship. However, the years in the fleet really paid off, he was much more ready the second time around.

Don't go there to Graduate my Friend....go there to be Honorman!!! Go there to be the number 1.....mother ****er in your class!! Go there and be the fastest 4 mile runner.....the fastest 2 mile swimmer....go there to 1st time everytime....everything!!! BUD/S is all about being a competative ****er....a winner....a they can kill me for all I give a **** about.....cuz I just don't give a ****.....Hell if I can be Honorman...any one...can!!! I never ran distance....never swam....across the length of the pool.....but I was a competative ****er....and when I showed up I looked around....and said if ANY of these ****s....make it.....it will be ME!!!
I know this is not directed at you....but the kid...who...has already lost before he's started....!!!

BUD/s 184...
Can Officers graduate as Honorman, or is that an enlisted only kind of thing?
And is there always a guy who gets 1st time everytime?

Yes officers can graduate Honorman!!
And I don't know if there is always a person in the class that 1st times everything.....there are a lot of factors!! But if that is your goal....then if you slip up....hell you still graduate...and are a US Navy SEAL for the rest of your life!!!
