My boyfriend of 3 years is about to sign the SEAL challenge contract. He is so excited and he had to get lasik before hand so he did not have to go through the long process of the Navy paying for it. Well that delayed him 3 months, and his recruiter told him that he should leave for basic in June. I am not sure why but something to do with paperwork and other conditions he is not able to leave for about six months and he is so down. I know it is going to be hard but I am willing to do whatever it takes to be with this man and he deserves nothing but the best. He has been training every Tues and Thur. with a past SEAL and works out using a workout plan that they made for him. He is really down that he can't just start already and get through it all. What can I say to him or remind him of to make him get a more positive attitude? He already knows that he will get more time with me and his family and he is not upset about that, he just said that he wants to be there already (he is very excited).

You should tell him.. "Welcome to Navy Life!"
lol. Im totally serious. Things change all the time. Dates change all the time. I realize that some people do not like it when they can't schedule their lives.. (Im that way) and it's not that they aren't cut out for it, it's just harder to get use to. He will get over it...I promise. It will be here before he knows it. He really does need to realize that this will be the theme of his life throughout his Navy career or he will be open for many disappointments. It doesnt matter if he's a fleet guy or a SpecOps guy... it's just the way it is. Just remind him that it gives him more time to train. You can never be too prepared. ;)

You can remind him that he has that much more time to prepare and train! My son was supposed to leave in August, but because of his rate (HM) he had to wait until the end of January. (fortunately SEAL candidates don't have to do an A school anymore).
For him, it was nearly a disaster! He had quit his job, he and his roommates were breaking up their household on August 1st, and he had no job, and no where to go but back home with me! Where he hadn't lived in nearly 4 years.
Oh, and he had a truck payment he wasn't able to make.
So, he had a lot to be down about. Instead, he looked at it as an opportunity. He moved back in with me, got a part-time job, and trained his butt off!
It was a good thing.
Tell your boyfriend more time to get ready is a GOOD THING!

bud/s 184 --I'm sure that the OP can figure out what the 2 letters I have edited and asterisked here. While I can and do appreciate your honest and direct approach, there are those who may take offense at the term you used. That is the only reason for my editing your post.

If they aren't smiling they're usually sleeping soon afterwards! Either way, it's a sure sign someone did the job correctly. ;)
