A guy I know is trying to tell me that only recon Marines train bud/s students. He also says that recon Marines go through the exact same training. I don't understand why he would say this especially considering he was a recon Marine.

SEALs train SEALs. The individual you're referring to is an idiot with an inflated ego and self-worth.

your friend is a...
i cant bad mouth him, seeing as he served this country...even if he was recon...
the only guys who train SEALs are SEALs. pick up a book, The warrior elite by **** couch or any book about SEALs and you can read about it.
btw, this information is easily found not only on the internet but on this very site, come on bro, show some initiative.

I was trying to convince him that SEALs train SEALs but he just kept saying "I have been in the military I know."
He said he knows this because a recon buddy of his was supposedly going to be an istructor at bud/s.
I searched the site and didn't find anything to show him. I also searched google. Both kept coming up with parts of trainig and not who trains them.

Wait a Second... I smell something... Have that numbskull log on here. We would LOVE to have a TALK with this guy....UH wait... POSER.....
Seriously...Tell him to get an account and get on here.. He better pray that no SEALS (REAL DEAL) look him up Recon Marine or not. Besides. I've known a few Recon's in my life and they had nothing but good things to say about SEALS. Sure they poked fun when it was just us Navy & Marine Corps together. But Marine Recon will always give SEAL its due.... ALWAYS. This guy was probably just a ground pounder who WISHED he was Recon.

By the way, I'm ready anytime for that dude that claims he's Recon Marine. I have some people that are ready to Vet him out as 0321 ONCE we get him straightened out about bud/s. They can better vet him than we can and they wont be so nice about it IF he isnt. Usually guys that talk like that send up big red flags..... I told them if they see me walk in with a squiggling Marine under my arm they'll know why. :D

Look your friend is an idiot. But he probalbly just got misunderstood. SEALS train SEALS. What your friend was refering to was the recon training they do in the same place Bud's is at in Coronado. Part of Recon training is delt with the small rubber boats that SEALS also use. In which they train for it in Coronado. So I can see where your friend was thinking that Recon Marines train the guys at Bud's, but they don't. I have also heard of Recon Marines doing some training where they get put out in the desert and locked up in cages and pretty much get treated like sh##. But I can never find info on this stuff either. I'm thinking it might be part of SERE training or how ever you spell it.

It probably could be. Whats happened in the last couple of years is that there have been such a huge increase in people "Claiming" to be alot of things. I believe this is because of the increased "Good" attention Veterans and the Military is now getting as opposed to what we got after Vietnam.
Even more sadly - Civilians having no military service at all are now walking around saying they are veterans. Just about all of us BDTD's have had it up to our eye balls with these guys at all levels. Whether its Marines, Navy, Army, AF, Puddle Pirates. Honestly, I dont see a Poser under every rock but stuff like this sends Red Flags flying with me.

The guy is full of S*** - you can tell him I said that. You can also tell this Peanut brain to get his facts straight about SEAL training before he opens that big pie hole he calls his mouth. His Mother and his DI should have taught him that. If this numbskull googles bud/s he will find out that 0321 does NOT train SEAL - SEAL trains SEAL. And - Recon Marine's do NOT receive the exact same training as Navy SEALS. Yes Recon training is - Tough as HELL, about the same DOR as SEAL if I remember right. Probably why HE NEVER MADE IT. You can copy and paste this to him... hope it pisses him off enough to look this crap up before he starts running off at the mouth. I have some boys over at Leatherneck.com ready to vet his butt for 0321 so Ill guess Ill have to wait and see if he ever gets the cojones to show up and talk his smack on here.
Look, thats the way it usually goes. These guys are ALL talk - REAL BIG talk until they have to come on someplace like this or leathernecks.com and get into the light and say the same things to us they are saying to you. They will RUN like H*** cuss and make up stories as they are running. Sure, he might have served but his mouth is now writing checks his butt cant cash.

Guys - If I seem a bit miffed about this sorry. Its getting worse all over. While over on Leathernecks.com (great bunch of guys) a jarhead was talking about some dude he saw walk in where he was. The man had on a ball cap - Marine Master Sgt pin, Vietnam pins all over the place etc...you know the drill. The guy was 45! Not a tooth in his head. The young Marine cautiously asked him where he went to Boot - the guy couldnt tell him where ... "he forgot".
Stuff like that makes my blood boil. Stuff like this guy talking to Partismo just irritates the snot out of me. Its kinda like a radar, as soon as someone like that opens their mouths and starts that crap the radar goes off. You KNOW something aint right.
If you run into these kind of people, think before you slug them (I know the urge may be overpowering). Exposing their lies and their shame is the best medicine. When wasn't it enough to have just "Served" without trying to be John Rambo?

Yea, we're all waiting for his lame A__ to get on here and have everyone take a shot at him. By the time we're through he will be a mumbling fool....wait... he's halfway there...He's already a FOOL....All we need to do is make him Mumble. Like I said earlier, a "Real" Recon Marine would not go around saying that BS because its not true. IF by some huge remote (I do mean remote) possibility he was 0321, then he needs to be straightened out by his Senior NCO.

This reminds me of the time I was at work and a friend of mine came to visit me. She was with this guy and I asked him what he did for a living, he said "Airforce" and so I asked him what is your MOS? He said, "what is an MOS?" So right there I put up a red flag then I said, what do you do in the Airforce and he spit out that he was Pararescue....I was laughing inside..you should have seen the guy, a complete moron. People that tell me they are in the service or say are veterans and can't answer simple questions make me angry...very angry. Just thought I'd share =)

Well your friend basically is an idiot. I doubt his even a Recon Marine if he insisted that statement was true. However, coming from a former Jarhead here, I know a lot of incredibly dumb and misinformed Marines so he may very well believe that he is right.
As to a couple of things I'd like to have cleared up on this thread.
Are Airforce job designations actually called MOS's? A good buddy of mine doesn't call it an MOS, and my sister who is in the Army doesn't call it an MOS either I'm pretty sure.
As to Maine, I have to comment (I was born and raised in Auburn, Maine.)
Let me educate you on good things that come from Maine.
Stephen King: Wrote many books that were turned into blockbuster movies that in all likelihood you've heard of and or seen.
Joshua Chamberlain- Won the battle of Gettysburg for the Northern Union army by directing the 20th Maine against Robert E. Lee (may REL rest in peace)
Some of Maine's largest exports are Lumber, Blueberries and Potatoes, which you've probably had a taste of
Bath Iron Works: Produces many ships for the US Navy
Savage Lobster fishing
Poland Spring Water
SERE school, saved many military men's life I'm sure of it
Of course, I am from Maine, please, no praise is needed ;)
and lastly, we are a huge border with Canada, we keep the Cannucks off of the rest of the US Backs!!
no but seriously, Maine is awesome, lay off.

In the navy we have 'Rates' and with in those rates we have NEC. That is Naval Enlisted Classification codes. SEALs get NEC's, BUD/S grads get NEC's, I don't know if any 'A' schools give NEC's but most 'C' schools do. My brother was a GM, he didn't get an NEC from 'A' school but he got one from his 'C' school. An NEC basically means that you have special training in that field. What would be similar to MOS's in the Army of Marines.
MrParker
05-26-2008, 09:18 PM
Navy calls it Rating. Not to be confused with Rate, which means Rank, but only for enlisted. Officers climb Ranks, enlisted climb Rates. The Navy just HAD to stand out with all their traditions.
Just to correct and not to confuse 'Rate' with 'Rank', two different things. You climb rank with in a rate, true...But you have to have a rate to make rank. Your rate is a job, your rank is your pay grade. Have LDO's, line officers, CWO's...that, well...you'll figure it out once your in...

i met an ex-marine in MEPS, who swore up and down that when he was sent to afghanistan about 6 years ago, he met SEAL Team 6. Although from my inquiry, it was evident that he had no idea of who Richard Marcinko is, or of the term Naval Special Warfare Development Group. i, of course, didnt go any further since im just a depper.

05-26-2008, 09:56 PM
I think it is Rating, not Rate. Rating is your job (GM, HM, EM, etc) and Rate is your "Rank". Officers climb Ranks, enlisted climb Rates.
q: "sailor, what is your rate?"
a: "seaman"
q: "and your rating?"
a: "hm"
dont navy personnel usually say HM1, AM2, SK3, or something like that? im sorry, its just that i hear that from my petty officers alot

In the Navy yes once you become a Petty Officer then you are addressed as such example MR2. So if someone ask me what is my rate then my reply is simply MR because MR is a job/rate. When someone says what is your rank then my rank is MR2 stands for MR rate 2 = Petty Officer Second Class E-5.
MR2

Ha ha,
OK but this is the last time as this is some easy ****. I can completely understand why this gets confusing to those that have not been in the navy as it is different from all other branches.
Rate- that is your job...
Rank- that is your pay grade
you put them together to make your 'title' so to speak. Your rate and rank are you frist name in the regular navy...you are AO1 such and such, you are HM3 so and so, or you are Seaman Sample, haha, for real, had a guy in Deck dept. that was a Seman and swear to God his last name was Sample! Needless to say he made 3rd his first time up!
So if you are a Gunners Mate and a E1 you are a GMSR, that would be a Gunners Mate Seman Recruit. If you are a GM and a Chief then you are a GMC...2nd class, GM2, 1st, GM1...etc...I was AO2...

That doesn't mean much. I met a guy in the 82nd once, does that mean I can name even three COs in their prestigious history? It's a little different with Marcinko as the man has a hundred books out, but you get the point.
He may or may not be lying. He very well might believe he did meet someone in DEVGRU, just an honest mistake. The Marine isn't really embellishing anything either like saying he was in DEVGRU or worked for them.

Who's on First, Second,Third...
Costello: Same as you! Same as YOU!!! I throw the ball to who. Whoever it is drops the ball and the guy runs to second. Who picks up the ball and throws it to What. What throws it to I Don't Know. I Don't Know throws it back to Tomorrow, Triple play. Another guy gets up and hits a long fly ball to Because. Why? I don't know! He's on third and I don't give a darn!
