View Full Version : Let's say...
you ship out to Great Lakes in about a week or so and it's past 60 days since you entered into DEP...
Are you still eligible to try out for the SEAL contract?

Unless something has changed in the last few years, anyone can volunteer for SEAL or SWCC or to be a diver while they are in bootcamp. They look for volunteers for those programs somewhere in the 3rd or 4th week.
that's really awesome if it's true...
been stressing about this lately

you can volunteer at boot, but you won't be entitled to the $40,000 SEAL contract bonus.

You'll be missing out on the SpecWar division. Why don't you try to get a SEAL contract if that's what you really want? I expect your ship date will be pushed back though, if you follow this route.

It shouldn't be about the money.
BUT, I know of two guys who finished with my son who didn't have contracts and volunteered in BUD/s, the bonus wasn't what it is now, but they got it anyway. I believe the contract can be added if they volunteer.

Youre Right Courtenay... 40G's is 40G's and thats alot of money. If that is what is being offered and you are enlisting why not take advantage of the offer. IF they had that type of bonus when I was in my buddy would NOT have kept me out of bud/s with a straight-jacket :)

Well, before anyone gets all excited about holding 40Gs in their hands, they should know that it is paid over a pretty long period of time. Basically you earn portions of it as you complete steps. I asked this morning to a good source (not my son, he's too busy playing SEAL to answer my dumb questions right now!) and the answer was that anyone who chose to volunteer for any of the programs at bootcamp will be automaticaly added to the SEAL contract, EOD contract, SWCC contract or Dive contract. The bonuses are "up-to" (keep that part in mind) 40k for SEAL, 30K for EOD, 25K for Divers and 18k for SWCC.
Anyone looking to volunteer in bootcamp and wants the bonus should verify that however, don't take my, or my source's word as gospel. At least if you go IN with the contract, you have it IN WRITING, up front.
lots of good info here. thanks Courtenay
