Here's the scenario... i have to keep this general but I will try to get to the point. Person is set to ship off to Basic in Aug. has SEAL contract and age waiver, (He's age is over 28 and under 33)... but some how some way he has been told should he not complete BUD/s he will not be sent to fleet unless he is a medical roll back. He was told some kinda of information/ loop hole ?... in order for this to occur. Or, and I say OR, is this just a ploy by the recruiter? Again, Person enlisting has very good knowledge of the TEAMS and certain procedures. Could someone w/ extensive knowledge clarify this please...
Thanks

That seems unlikely that they would keep someone that DOR's during training... regardless of age.

I have heard that DORs are offered EOD and SWCC. Perhaps thats the implication.

Your age and waiver does not make you any different from an 18 year old enlisting with a SEAL contract after high school. Any recruiter telling you so is misinformed. Should you DOR or be medically dropped from the program, you will be assigned to a Fleet billet of the Navy's choice based on convenience and need. You would most likely be stationed in San Diego. The only situation that I ever encountered vaguely akin to what you are speaking of-was two guys in my BUD/S class who had enlisted in the Naval Active Reserve. They assumed Active Duty status to attend BUD/S. When they DOR'ed they were both sent packing back their hometowns where they went back to Reserve Status and resumed drilling one weekend out of the month.

That ~ who knows. I'll bow out, have no clue. I do know some recruiters WILL promise about anything (and not put it in writing) to get you to sign though. You've GOT to read those contracts line by line. :)

If you don't know then don't post. What is it with the ...I heard...or I think crap. Clear the air here and now. Someone will help eventually. Stop posting about anything you don't know about. READ MORE POST LESS>

Excellent....Close answer. The SEAL Challange has some kind of wierdness with it. I am waiting for the brain on the subject to show.

Friend med dropped from 271, the SO community offering him a special job though because hes an aircrewman... just a rare case scenario he got lucky enough to stick around just not wear the trident.

Yep. If you are G2G and they can use you, they will keep you. Very rare. Most BUD/S duds are angry and blame others for thier demise.

the loop hole?????? I am speaking of came from someone who knows about the navy and their procedures. I am just as baffled by this as you all are? I am only bringing this to attention b/c it was brought to mine. The person in question may be lying or may be painting a pretty picture in the event things don't work out. I was very curious about this topic.

Dude hes getting BS'd into a contract. Make sure he knows that there is NO guarantees hes going to stay out of the fleet if he drops from training... UNLESS on his contract it says something like "IF DROP FROM BUD/S TRAINING REPORT TO XX "A" SCHOOL THEN REPORT TO NAVAL BASE HAWAII FOR 4 YEARS FUN IN THE SUN!"
WHICH WONT HAPPEN!

You know, Jmason could be right, they need numbers these days. You cant tell unless you read the contract he got. OR, he could be feeding you a line of BS too. Too many unknowns. I will say it sounds a bit fishy (pardon the pun) that they will keep him out of the fleet - This is the NAVY. Its ALL about the fleet and SUPPORT of the fleet. I lucked out my first tour and got shore duty overseas. IF I had reenlisted I would have gotten Promo and choice of duty to instructor to school (ASCOMM).. BUT.. I was told after that I HAD to serve Sea time. Even though foreign service counts as sea service its still not SEA service.
Anyway, its really not enough information to go on but there a bit of a smell there... it could be OldSwabbie's underarms or it could be that line of BS that your friend brought in the door :)
