I was researching some issues regarding enlistment...and I came across this:

Moral Eligibility Screening Moral Eligibility Screening
Minor Traffic Violations (http://usmilitary.about.com/od/navyjoin/a/navcrimea.htm)-- 1 to 5 -- No Waiver Required
Minor Traffic Vilations -- 6 or more -- Not Eligible for SEAL Challenge

UNLAWFUL SPEED (Not Paid yet, to be paid or taken to court)

IMPROPER EQUIPMENT/MOTORCYCLE
UNLAWFUL SPEED
UNLAWFUL SPEED
FAILED TO YIELD/VEH/APPR/ENT/I
BICYCLE REGULATIONS

Does this mean I can't get a SEAL contract? If I take the ticket to court and hope the cop doesn't show up, will the ticket still count? or can I get a waiver?

EDIT: Just contacted a lawyer, for $150 the ticket will most likely be dismissed, if so, does that count as 5, or still 6?

For what its worth, I hope it doesnt count so you can get your contract.

PS...until you DO get the contract....drive carefully! :)

Traffic laws vary from state to state. Since neither your forum or community profiles list a state location, it's a little hard to answer your question. Try looking up what your state laws are at this site: www.dmv.org (http://www.dmv.org)

Also, you may want to start FOLLOWING the traffic laws in your state. That certainly would cut back on the number of traffic violations you are issued.

According to (http://usmilitary.about.com/od/navyjoin/a/navcrimea.htm) I dont see anything about bicycle regulations, you might want to provide more information about that... so that could be one violation you dont have to worry about.

Theres waivers for everything... you could probably get a waiver for your driving history all you have to do is talk to your recruiter and see what they can do for you.

6 or more you would be a liability anyway.

Oldswabbie, Ambassador and Jmason, thanks for your replies.

1-Six or more Minor Traffic Violations require a waiver by the Recruiting Division Commander.

NOTE: The bicycle one is for not having lights on...when I was biking instead of running that night.......and improper equipment is because I wasn't wearing a helmet.........B.F.D.!

2-faulty equipment tickets are no longer considered minor traffic offenses for any applicant (except nuclear field) regardless of program rating. They do not have to be waived for enlistment purposes, no matter how long ago they occurred. However, these violations must be listed on the applicant's Electronic Personal Security Questionnaire (EPSQ).

So that's one ticket off! (improper equipment!!)

3- Pacing as it turns out....is not a reliable method of issuing a speeding ticket....especially when it says "around or above" like mine does....lol.....joke's on him....one less on your quota!

I'm slowing down for good, can't afford to let something stupid like speeding stop me, it just ain't worth it when considering what's at stake.

BFD you say. Laws are laws. You should have learned from the first couple of mistakes. Here in California, bicycles are treated as motor vehicles and are governed by the same laws as cars. BFD you say...Stop breaking the law and get your bike squared away. You violated so don't get mad at the tickets, take responsibility for it and STOP doing it.

My understanding is you need a separate waiver for each ticket or traffic violation. All tickets must be paid and things like bond or any warrants resolved. You should contact your local recruiter, preferably the RINC, for the most accurate answer.

Only in California....would a non-motorized vehicle be classified as a motor vehicle lol....In FL, it is classified as a vehicle, not motorized unless it actually is, but road laws apply when riding on the road and pedestrian laws apply when riding on the sidewalk.

Only one ticket was on my bicycle, the rest were on my motorcycle...

Like I said in my earlier post, whatever I think about the laws concerning some of these issues is my business, however I will abide by them and will not break the law concerning any matter, I have more serious issues to worry about than a bunch of traffic citations.

I should either thursday or monday.

Here's an informative post:

Low ASVABs are a killer, amount of and content of tattoos is a killer right now, non minor misemeanors and traffic problems are tough, DUIs a big problem, pattern of misconduct is a big problem, credit is getting more attention, education level and transcripts are being looked at hard, medical has always been tough but it is getting tougher (you wouldn't believe the screening process that we have to go through and the no go's for medical are getting tight), the amount of dependents can keep you out of the military, and then the regulations change by the week. I have a hard time keeping track.

How you have even managed to keep your drivers license without it being suspended or revoked is beyond me. Not to mention paying your car insurance premiums. With your driving record and age, you have got to be paying a fortune for insurance.

With regards to your BFD comment. It is and should be one. Perhaps you should do a little research on how many people suffer some form of brain damage that would and could have been prevented had they been wearing a helmet.

As they say ---- SAFETY FIRST!

Bicycle ticket has no points, improper equipment on motorcycle(no helmet) has no points.

The other four have points,

Unlawful speed: 40 in a 30
Unlawful speed: Above 80 in a 55
Unlawful speed: 52 in a 35
Failure to yield: infront of 3 cars, 2 of them cops...dumb move lol

But I took an online course on one, knocked points off and paid less..

I don't own a car! Just motorcycles!! and in FL you don't need motorcycle insurance!!!!!!! :D I got a quote from GEICO on a R6 I had, when I had only one ticket it was $7,000/yr!!! SCREW THAT!

I don't wear a helmet on my motorcycle because it causes tunnel vision, which causes accidents!

The R6 is BAD-A$S. You're lucky you don't live in NY, there's no way your license wouldn't be suspended with those speeding tickets. In fact, I think it would've been suspended after the first two.

According to Florida law, if you are over 21 and not wearing a helmet, you must carry at least $10K in medical coverage.

If I were you, Speed Racer, I'd lay off the throttle.

Do you guys even have space for more than 20mph? :D

I also carry $10,000 in medical coverage and like I said, I don't plan on speeding anymore, I didn't know it could affect enlistment THAT much.

First off, I was a motorcycle officer in NJ and was hit head-on on a four lane highway at 11pm on a summer night, with me going southbound with lights on backing up a car crew on a street fight and the other driver waiting to make a left turn facing northbound. No other traffic. I was doing 35 mph. For whatever reason after waiting to turn for over a half a mile the other driver turn directly to me and I was launch 130 feet after he hit me and ran over the Harley and came to a dead stop. Witnesses said I would have travelled another 50 feet if I had not hit a parked car rear fender. My helmet split open like a hard boiled egg and I went into cardiac arrest. If not for the helmet, the car crew I was backing up doing CPR and 6 months of surgery and therapy I would not be here today.

I ride a honda Goldwing now and would not even go to the corner store without a helmet on. My insurance in Florida for full coverage is only $480.00 a year. Glad to see you are cutting down the speed.

Dang. Sounds like God isnt done with you yet. My event was also at night, I wasnt speeding but coming onto an interstate. I slid under an 18 wheeler that was running with no lights...it ripped my seafarers to shreds and tore my legs up a bit. I had "Ducked" at the last second and went under it. I can only imagine if I had been going any faster...or if YOU had.

You have to be so careful on bikes these days. Especially in Florida. I was born there, raised there. My wife and I moved from there to here (SC) about 2 1/2 years ago because of the hurricanes. I lost a few friends on bikes down there. Just went to a funeral of a Desert Storm Vet who was killed on a brand new bike just before we left.

Yep, God gave me more than nine lives. In my 25 years this one chokes me up still talking about it, but I also was shot and stabbed with an ice pick (vest saved me) and 13 emergency room visits for injuries sustained during arrests. I went home after treatment but the prisoners all stayed in the hosiptal for awhile.

Just trying to convey how seriously the injury can be at low speed and without a helmet how quickly you are dead. I can honestly say the drivers here are wild but NJ's inner city was more fierce and tougher with narrow streets and parking on both sides and chasing someone doing 60+.

Hope 9007112 the message from two older guys.

I have been riding motorcycles for 12yrs now. My latest addition to the stable is a HAYABUSA. Speed is extremely deceptive on these machines
(90 seems like 65) so I can see how getting a ticket is easy. I have only had one ticket in my driving career (tinted windows), and my premium on this bike is $200 a month, so a good driving record does nothing for these machines as far as your premiums are concerned. (Thanks CALIFORNIA)

Helmets are a no brainer, they are made for two reasons, to save your gray matter in an accident, and if you bite the big one, the officer doesn't have to scrape your brain up with a shovel, they can just pick it up all at once in a convenient container hahaha.

I can honestly say that drivers in automobiles are the majority of the causes for motorcycle accidents (they don't pay attention to riders, or they just don't care) Thanks again CALIFORNIA

Glad to see you're both alright, motorcycle accidents suck...

My biggest one was on my R6, I was traveling about 55mph and this lady makes a left turn right infront of me....It was a perfect T-bone! The bike took most of the impact...I flew on top of her car, kept going for a good while, tumbled then landed face, I was wearing a helmet.

I was looking at the road under me and for some reason I started laughing...took off the helmet and then looked at the bike and face went from laughing to this :(......I also noticed there was a s*** load of people starring at me and the doctors at the hospital were like "This.........is your motorcycle accident??".........nothing that alcohol and some bandaids couldn't cure!!!!

The outcome was good, $7,000 in damage for the bike, paid in full by that lady's insurance...she was 100% at fault....1 torn bloody jeans, tons of pain pills, $3000 just to ride an amubulance and get checked out, which her insurance also paid for....and one hell of a ride LOL....I went racing as soon as I got the bike back :D
