To quote Doc...

Mikepr,

welcome to NavySEALs.com.

There are a lot of very knowledgable professionals on here that can give you some very valuable advice and suggestions to achieve your goals.

You should become very familiar with the BUD/S Warning Order and also look closely at the CrossFit forum and training sections of the site. Such a general question is very unlikely to garner much interest from BTDTs as they will say the exact same thing you said ... Could the guy not use a little bit of initiative and use the search function!!! Your question has been asked many times and answered in the past. I know it can be a little time consuming, however, searching allows you to become very familiar with the site, the users and more importantly the answers to your questions.

If after doing that, you have a more specific question i am sure that somebody will be able to give you a more comprehensive answer.

Please read the following posting:

http://navyseals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=156824

Best of luck to you.

I am going to nominate you for the next ambassador to whatever country we need one in. That was the most diplomatic, kind answer I have ever seen on here. This young motivated guy just got some very good advice.

Some people need to keep in mind that not everyone is familiar with these types of forums or that a search feature even exists. I know I didn't but I am old and didn't have a computer given to me when I graduated Kindergarden like these days :)

You need 15 college credits if you're going to enlist with a GED. Graduate high school early if you're so amped on becoming a SEAL. You will have ZERO time to "finish high school" during BUD/S.

Guys, if ever there was an example of why you should stay in high school it's this post by Mikepr. No offense but my ten year old writes much better. If you are serious about career in SOF you better learn to communicate using the written word. You got an F on this assignment

PS one more stupid question and you are gone

Just to put it out there even though this is one of those dumb questions that could have been answered if you called a recruiting station...

You can join any military service at 17 with a parental signature. I was at MEPS on my 17th birthday and was a 3rd class Petty Officer before I was 18. But you need to at least get a 32 on your ASVAB....

montstar

Just to add on to that post. You can enlist into a delayed entry program at the age of 17, while you are still in high school. But you then must finish high school to remain eligible for actual enlistment.

Wow, did you enter the military as an E3? I would've imagined so, because boosting from E1 to E3 at boot sounds silghtly improbable. Unless you were at boot camp on your 17th birthday.

Again you know this how? How do you rate to call out anyone. You haven't even had your nuts drop yet. Read more, post never.

Was drewgupt talking to me...Well I graduated highschool at 16, joined the Navy at 17, left for boot a few months later. I went in as a E-1, was MAA at boot, got E-2 out of their, was Honor student at 'A' school so I got E-3 out of their and with that lovely Honor student I got E-4 a few months after reporting to my command. I made E-5 the first time I took the test.

And thanks ddssdv for the back up. Just to make sure that their is no confusion, I have stated it before but I am no SEAL.

So for those that can't figure it out, I did not skip any ranks, E1 to E5.

When are you going to understand not to reply on topics that you posses no expertise? This is a perfect example of why you are getting very close to being banned at the IP level. Look. I understand from others that you are young, I also know that you are well meaning and intelligent. For these reasons you are being given a lot of chances here. Ambassador has warned you repeatidily and so have others. You really need to listen to these warnings and stop posting unless you have some special knowledge or expertise on a topic.

People are trying to help you out here, now it's your turn to follow through on this and change it up quickly.

Drew

There is a proper and improper way to ask someone a question Drew. Your post is the perfect example of the improper way to do it. I have tried on more than one ocassion to explain this to you. Yet for some unexplainable reason it seems as if it has fallen on deaf ears. It's not all that difficult of a concept to grasp.

Right now I have to agree with Rsctt83, ddssdv and the post made by Ambassador in another thread. You need to stop making posts like this. And, if you can't then you shouldn't post at all.

I know what it's like to be your age Drew. At that age, many think they know it all. I'm not saying that your one of the many but you need to understand that hindsight is 20/20. If you had thought about your first post and then clicked on the "preview post" icon first, you never would have had to make the second post at all.

I sincerely hope that you are getting it now. You are on your own from this point on kiddo. The way I see it, you are hanging by a very thin rope. Don't blow your last chance.

I just want to say that I'm impressed with the way you went about things. Instead of following the normal HS-College routine, you went on your own and took a unique journey to E-5. Peopl must have thought you were nuts when you graduated HS early to enlist in the Navy. Well done and good luck on the rest of your journey.

Can I give you some fatherly advice son? Stay in school, get your High School Diploma. You can enlist in the DEP (Delayed Enlistment Program) etc and look forward to your Naval career.

The reason I say this? I'm going to be blunt, but I'm going to be honest because I care...ok? If you dont stick it out long enough to finish High School the odds are you WILL NOT stick it out to make it though bud/s - lets alone Navy Boot which is hard enough as it is. Not saying you couldnt, or wouldnt, I'm just saying the odds start stacking against you if you start dropping out of things earlier in life.

Life moves fast enough once you get out of High School. I know you've probably heard this a thousand times (I sure did) - these ARE the best years of your life, the rest is Gravy.

Thats my advice, I hope you take it. Stay in school, the Navy isnt going anywhere, the SEAL program can wait for you :)

When I enlisted in the Navy I was an E1 (Seaman Recruit) in Bootcamp, the day I graduated I sewed on E3 Seaman stripes because of 3 years Marine Corps ROTC. Plus - I left there with 2 1/2 months back pay difference E1 to E3 from day1 till graduation.

Martin (My best friend had the same deal). We were told not to say anything to the guys in the company about it while in boot. When we graduated and everyone saw our stripes they freaked out wondering how the H*** we got E3 since only 1 recruit (the top notch guy) got the promotion like that.

I think it was something like a year and a half I was promoted to RM3.

Thanks man, I am just another dime-a-dozen story. Joined for SEALs, got hurt in the frey and got out. I just happend to excel in the Navy.

To Drew, you didn't offend me but since you have never been, you just don't know how it works. I can tell you how to be an AO in the Navy, and a few things not to do when training for SEALs, but that's it. Good luck to you.

I'm writing a blog on my escapades, should make for some good reading :) I got in more trouble the first couple of years than I did any good. I was not winning the war against immaturity, I was loosing the battle terribly! Got so bad at my first duty station that they threatened to take my TS Clearance away, put my A** on a boat and send me to China LOL I got the message loud and clear and straightened up.

Yea, some of the guys should listen to those that have been through stuff. A few years ago my Step son enlisted in the Navy before he talked to me and DIDNT get a guaranteed school. After alot of wheeling and dealing he did finally get accepted to EOD school and started that. While doing PT I cautioned him about some of the stuff he was doing on the side, - didnt listen to the old man. Snapped his Achilles tendon, now he's had 6 operations to get it somewhat back to where he can walk. Medically discharged and pissed off that he had to leave the Navy...he really wanted to stay in.

Dude...You want to know how it is to be in the Navy, join up and do it. Yes, we cuss A LOT, A ****ING LOT. If you want to be an AO to see what it is like, then do it. Spend some time in and then you let me know how it is...I've already done it. When are you kids gonna realize that you can't read or hear how it is and then 'know' that is how it is. You have to experince it first hand. Yes you might cuss while you are doing it, hell, that's all I learned at boot camp.

Edit: who cares about me, this is a Navy SEALs site, not an AO site. I am a nobody just looking out for folks that might be headed down a path to an injury I already had. Don't want them to make my mistake.

I think everyone learned to cuss alot in the Navy, and drink alot of coffee and ... uh.. nevermind. ;)

I think i've heard just about every rate say the same thing. Now that I've been out for a long time I look at it all and say wow - they have so many rates because THEY NEED THEM ALL. Every rate has an incredibly important job. Of course a PN job isnt as dangerous as an AO, unless you count an infected paper cut! Ha ha, sorry.

I love the United States Navy. I love its heritage, I love its traditions. The ongoing pages of its history are legacy are being written each and every day by individuals. Ordinary men and women placed in extraordinary circumstances.

Mr. Parker, can I take you up on the offer for advice on things not to do when training for the SEALs? I am an E-3 DEP'r and scheduled to ship in Sep, I was orginally going to go in April, but due to an overzealous training regimine I am currently recovering from ITBS on my left side. I kept telling myself; SEALs never take a break, pain is illusory, you don't get breaks at BUD/S. Then one day after about three months of training with improper rest I couldn't walk up a flight of stairs. I am always looking for advice from someone whose BTDT. Please email me if you perfer it to posting; gclark@smu.edu. Godspeed drewgupt.
