I got out of the USMC about 2 years ago. I'm 25 years old, and before becoming a Marine, I wanted to be SEAL. But changed my mind when I wanted to become a sniper. While in the Corps, I was guide in bootcamp, passed the recon indoc (didn't get orders though) during SOI. Had a 1st class swim qual, a 299 PFT (3 miles in 18:01, 20 pull ups, 100 crunches in 2 mins) I was an 0311 (Rifleman) got orders to cold weather SERE school, graduated, I've done SPIE rigging, and all kinds of weapons training and schooling. I was at 8th & I for two years, then with 1/5 at Pendleton. I've been thinking about maybe going for SEALs. Here are my current issues.
I dislocated my shoulder while on active duty and had surgery, I can still do pull ups, and push ups, but it'll never be as good as it once was. It subflexes every now and then. Last year I dislocated my wrist snowboarding and had surgery, I'm back to where I can do push ups and do normal exercises, but I'm afraid the amount of stress put on my body at BUD/s will destroy my shoulder and my wrist. I'm not worried about the mental part. I'm more worried about my joints giving out on me. But even before that, will the Navy take me? (I'm getting 10% from the VA for my shoulder) Also, what's the deal with prior service vets going through BUD/s? I surf all the time, and am NAUI certified, diving is no problem, again, my only concern would be aggravating my previous injuries...
And another one is I got married about 7 months ago. I'm making good money as a Surveillance Specialist, and I dont know how much a typical SEAL makes every month. I wouldn't be doing it for the money, but its more a matter of being able to support my family. Hows married life within the Teams?
