Hello...
my question has to do with the amount of lower body PT that may be necessary. Now In college I was a track & field thrower...and I also did Olympic weightlifting.
My strength base for legs is good...I full snatched 300lbs and clean & jerked 375lbs. I had a 440lb behind the neck push jerk...at a bodyweight of 225lbs.

Now since then Ive dropped down to 190lbs and have EOD contract.

My legs are still very large I think for a 190 lb person.

I never really ran for conditioning, nor did I do any aerobic activity for many years while doing this sport. I did not need to, my weight always was where I needed it to be, and my results in lifts progressed just fine without it...most heavier olympic lifters do not.

Alright, about time for my question...How much lower body lifting do I really need to perform? My run sucks pretty bad, it is only borderline 12:45. But I train my run very hard. My heart and lung conditioning is just not near on par with my leg development and I still get terrible lactic acid buildup it would seem. I do lower body lifting, but it just seems to interfere with my running which is more important to me now.

My legs are still very strong, and I could still squat 400 cold and snatch 225lbs like nothing. So, is it really necessary to even lift lower body?

Thank you for suggestions...it is nice to have found a good online community for help with these questions...rather than ask on BB'er forums.

Solution is simple: do crossfit. You'll make outrageous gains in stamina and endurance. You may not be able to squat 400 lbs but it's way better conditioning for BUD/S than traditional weight training.

AND...it includes lots of running (in the form of short sprint intervals and long distance ruck runs) and swims

Its very important to maintain your lower body. And althought you have outstanding strength in the legs I would work on leg stamina because as a former olympic style lifter I know that style lifting is not enduranced based. Try workouts like lunges, wall sits and cycling. Also Stretch before and after workouts because loosening up your tendons will help your running.

Once again...are you talking about BUD/S or EOD? Hopefully it's EOD, since that's what this forum is for. If your run time is marginal, then you need to run more. It's pretty simple. IMHO, crossfit is not the magic pill for everything. I've done it for a few years now. It's great, but it didn't fulfill my running requirements. You need to look at the EOD warning order and that will get you where you need to be. Use your own good judgment. Mix things up. If your legs are already strong, then worry less about that. I always worked hardest at my weak points, which was running for a while. Now it's not. Good luck.

Thanks gator33...appreciate the advice.
I did in my post mention I was going EOD. I have to agree that crossfit has not attacked my weaknesses...I am trying to gather opinions for someone like myself who happens to be a weak runner.

Think about it. You need your legs for what, humping ****, getting in and out of the water, swimming, running....I think YOU can answer that one yourself.

viking,
sorry, I did see your mention of an EOD contract. It was the first response that threw me. You'll have to find the balance for you where you can maintain strength and the kind of endurance you'll need. Good luck.
