I just received a DOC into the SEAL's. I have a few questions for those out there that are currently or formerly SEAL's. As an officer going into BUDS what are the expectations from officers. I know there is very little difference between an officer and enlisted, but the subtle differences would be helpful. Next question, and i have head rumors that the winter class has been eliminated, is there any truth to this rumor and when are the next several classes starting? Another question concerning the teams, AO has been removed from what i can gather, but how does one get chosen for DEVGROUP? Last question, i am a single man, how does those with family's get through BUDS and the teams? Thanx

In BUD/S, there is quite a difference between an officer and a regular enlisted classmate. Officers are meant to keep the organization going as well as timely, efficient and proper management of the class. In an ideal situation, each boat crew will be lead by an officer. Each boat crew leader reports to the LPO/OIC and things are taken care of that way. A regular ol' e-dog won't be in responsible for making sure the collaterals get done, nor will he fess up when something goes wrong within the boat crew. HOWEVER, when something goes wrong in BUD/S, it won't matter who's fault it is, everyone will feel the pain equally.

Winter classes were canceled a while back when president Bush initially stated that he wanted more SEALs. Congress and everyone in charge twisted things and started trying to force guys through. Thus, winter classes/hell weeks were canceled. That didn't last for long, as things have been normal for quite some time.

Selection process.

Guys with families make it through the same as guys without. Family men will still live in the barrakcs during the required times, though they can possibly receive BAH w/dep.
