dfc, just talked to a buddy of mine from college who is looking to go into the Navy and attend Dive School. His interest is underwater construction and welding and he's decided he wants to give it a go pretty soon. I just talked to him briefly so i'm not sure what info he's got on his own thus far but i was just wondering if you had anything to supplement for that specific career. Is there a specific school you would go to just for welding, or is it incorporated into 2nd and 1st phase school? And what type of jobs might they be assigned while active. Nothin too specific just kind of helping him out. I did find this site but it didn't offer too much info regarding what kind of stuff they do.

Thanks,

Jason,
Unfortunaly the welding is usually done on a needs basis but the basics are taught in 2nd class school. I was an HT before the new ND rate so my primary job as a diver was underwater construction. I would suggest if your buddy wants a underwater construction career in the Navy go in as a SEEBEE and go to dive school. They have whats called the UCT (underwater contruction teams) and these guys do it all. I will try to find some info for the UCT's.
