I already have a very good idea how much time I wont be spending with my family while attending BUDs but is it worth the hassle and possible relationship problems to bring my wife and son to California while I am at SQT? I would prefere responses from those who have delt with this problem only. Thank you.

Well, I have been through it as a parent, not a wife. However, I think it is absolutely worth it to bring them to be with you if they are a source of inspiration and assistance to you. Especially if having them far away and the separation will be hard on them and on you. (both financially and emotionally)
On the other hand, you know your family dynamics, if having them around will be a distraction, if your wife is going to burden you with a list of "honey-dos" every weekend, if your son will feel neglected by your not having a lot of time with him, then maybe they are better off staying "home".
Only you really know the answer to your question. What works for one family, doesn't always work for another.

Once you get thru BUD/S you will know everything there is to know about your question. Do not get ahead of yourself.

I hate asking a question and after reading somones answer, you think, why didint I think of that? Thank you for your input. It is my question to answer, if I could "un-ask" it believe me I would.
I am fully aware of the "Search" function on this web site. I have been a memeber for over 4 months and I can count the number of posts that I have written on one hand. Thank you for your advice anyway.

I know that when my husband was in SQT I would have loved to be with him, I wasn't able to make the move until a week before he gradauted. I can only speak from experience having not lived with him during SQT. I was in school and very busy, so it really worked out for us. Now though, being a Mom and more involved with my family I really would have wanted to be in San Diego with him. Hope that helps!
