''Aspiring SEALs who Kick *** here will also get a personal recommendation letter from me for inclusion in their BUD/S package''
-Don Shipley

Hey guys,

Do you think if somebody gets a recommendation letter from an ex-seal is good or will he get a bit to munch attention from the instructor ?

P.S; I live in Canada, but I guess i wouldn't hurt to have a recommandation letter from Don. I have alot of questions about myselft, not my thought about being in JTF2 or something but what's Don offering looks great. Would be a great trips to Viriginia. For $200 I can afford this during the summer.

Also, I guess it's cool to have a bunch of retired Seal to talk to, that's my opinion, I would like to hear yours.

are you planning on going into JTF2? I don't know anything about Canadian Special forces but I doubt a recommendation from a former Navy SEAL could hurt. They aren't going to ride you cause you got a rec from a Former SEAL. and IF they do who cares if you want it bad enough you'll make it through. Best of luck to you bud and I am going to his program in June so if your in that course as well see you there.

also read what your typing before you post.

Recommendation letter or not, you will get to go to bud/s anyways if you meet/exceed the standards.

May be true for enlisted men, but officers need a strong letter of recommendation to be slated for BUD/S.

It depends on the source. If you're in USNA, they have their own processes and you get your recommendations from a NSW officer that's usually in charge of that area.

OCS candidates are usually directed to a NSW officer who will interview you and may write a good recommendation based on your overall impression. His recommendation in addition to your professors who can evalute your academic abilities as well as your PST scores are what helps you. Mr. Shiple may be an ex-SEAL, but his recommendation isn't of the highest priority.

His recommendation can't hurt, butyour CO's recommendation is that much more important.

Your professors' recommendations will carry much more weight than Don Shipley's. If the mini-BUD/s for officers of previous years was looked upon as a joke by BUD/s instructors, what do you think an unofficial program NOT RUN by the Navy will be looked as? Not knocking his program at all. Although I've never been through it, I'm sure it's a hell of a program. But it's not BUD/s and the reality is that it is a civilian-run course.

Huh? That may be your opinion, but the truth is, in order to get into BUD/S as an officer you have to have a strong recommendation letter from someone because the competition is so fierce. mmaakuma pointed out it can't be just anyone but still, you need one. I don't know about the OP but some on here want to be officers...

What? I barely understood what you wrote.

Officer packages are completely different from signing a SEAL contract. It kind of is like applying for a job in the business world. There are a couple hundred people applying for around 20 openings and you have to compete and beat the competition. Officer applicants have to compete with each other before even getting to get to BUD/S.
