I searched this online and couldn't find the information I was looking for...basically, I have a challenge contract for SWCC, but as of late I was thinking about maybe I would like to be in a different (EOD) field. Would I be able to change to a different challenge contract once in boot camp? Would I still be eligible for the bonus, etc? I'm only thinking about this right now.

you need to tell your mentor and he should be able to change your contract. Im not sure about doing it during bootcamp. I would do it before.

If you are having doubts about whether you want to change rates before you go, then you should. SWCC is going to be the hardest thing you will ever have done in your life and it will take the upmost commitment and dedication. I am a wanna-be as well but I have been active duty for 3 1/2 years. I have seen guys go through difficult schools that did not want to be there and they failed out quickly. If you have any doubts now, go ahead and find another job. There are many, many other great jobs the Navy has to offer if you are still wanting to join. Maybe something not so dangerous. If that is a concern or how hard training is going to be then you do not need to think about EOD either. EOD is another Special Warfare job that is very difficult and requires the same type of commitment SWCC will. Look in the Navy Times magazine, there is normally at least one EOD guy every week or two that has been killed overseas. Just my two cents, I am not discouraging you from joining the Navy though. Maybe SpecWar just isn't what you REALLY want to do. We will find out soon enough if it is what I want to do...

Hooyah dive doc! I heard it is the most miserable school in all of the military but I am pumped! I think it will get me in the right mindset for SWCC training. I can see myself one day at the beach saying "man this sucks right now but there is no way I am giving up, I didn't go to S.E.R.E. for nothing!". Dive doc are you SpecWar?
