Hello,
My name is Jake and I am in high school and hope that I can be apart of SWCC. I want SWCC when I get out of high school more than anything,I know I won't change my mind. I would like to ask those who have been in SWCC and are in SWCC a few questions. I have a couple years beofore I can join SWCC, but was hoping I could find out a little more about getting ready for the navy and going to SWCC indoc.
1. I use the EOD prep training guide, is that ok to use?(I will try and post a link to it)
2. Would it help out to read books about basic seaman ship if I do not live around boats?
3. Should I try and fit in a shop class(auto) as in training you have to know about the boat engine?
4.How often do the soldiers who pass all the training get the unit they want? For me, I would love to be with SBT-22 out of Mississippi. I love the SOC-R boats.
Thank you all for your help! I hope it is not a problem for me, a civilian for posting on this website, if so let me know and I will not post.
Thanks,
Jake

Well, I'm gonna work this backwards.
4. The needs of the Navy come first and foremost. But, it may happen that where the Navy needs you is where you want to go.
3. Any type of mechanics class won't hurt. Plus, taking an auto shop class will definitely help your score on the ASVAB; Mechanical Comprehension is one of the sections of the test that will determine if they will even consider you in the program.
2. Again, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt. But, I've never read a basic seamanship book so I don't really know for sure.
1. I can't touch that with a 10 ft pole. I know absolutely nothing about the EOD prep training guide to advise you either way. However, there are other programs out there that help specifically with the SWCC program, so I'm guessing they would be a better bet.
I also want to give you a little tid bit of corrective info. Indoc is only the first 2 "introductory" weeks in a 21 week program. What you would be ultimately preparing for is SWCC School.
There is a lot of great information on this site. In my opinion, it is the best site available. Please feel free to browse through the SWCC forum and read the posts. A lot of hopefuls like yourself have asked many questions, and there are many with experience here that have answered them. I'm sure you will find some very useful knowledge about how best to prepare yourself in your endeavor to become a SWCC.
Good luck :)

Hi,
Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my questions. I am not sure what it is about SWCC that sucks me in, the fast boats or working with the best martime operators, I just hope that I can make it. Almost forgot, how is the Stew Smith workout program? I need to find one that will help me get into SWCC shape and stay in SWCC shape.Thank you again,
Jake

You can use the Stew Smith training plan which is great and you can also take a look at the BUDs warning order it also has a great training plan. BUDs and SWCC training are a lot alike physically with running, pushups, pullups, situps, and swimming. This is what I have been told and from what I hear SWCC training is just as physically and mentally demanding as BUDs the big difference is what is empazied at each school. Demo, Scuba etc verses boats etc. Hope this info helps you can also utilize the daily WODs that are posted in the fittness section of the forum.

Thanks for the post. I will be sure to check out the good information you provided me with. Can't wait to get started on a more SWCC type workout.
By chance are there any books about SWCC that I don't know about? I have searched Amazon.com and other websites of the sort but no luck so far. Thank you all very much!

Jake,
Like you I want to drive fast boats and be with one of the most elite units in the world. The first step would be to talk to a recruiter and get all of the information about SWCC and what the Navy has to offer. If you are really wanting to get in great shape I advise picking up the Stew Smith's complete guide to Navy Seal Fitness. It is the best workout I have personally ever used and I have gotten in the best physical shape of my life on this workout. It has made my numbers go through the roof compared to where I was when I started. It has pictures and instructions for every exercise you will have to do. It also has a lot of helpful tips on getting ready for training. Granted it is designed for Bud/s but all the basic workouts apply. To help you with some of those questions...
1. I have seen the EOD workout and it will get you in shape but I would recommend getting ready for Bud/s shape because SWCC will be similar.
2&3. Shop, electronics, etc. will get you ready for the Navy. But remember SWCC school is now an "A" school (Job training) so they will teach you what you need to know. They will however increase what you make on your ASVAB which is also an important aspect of SpecWar. The only type of water I lived by was a river growing up. You will learn PLENTY about seamanship in bootcamp.
4. I am also shooting for the SBT-22 team but as swccwife stated, it goes by the needs of the Navy. The way to help that out is finish top of your class so you have the first choice of orders. I am not sure if that is how SWCC works but most "A" schools are that way. I have heard you have to finish top of your class anyway to go to the SBT-22 team and you have to be a complete bad-***.
I am a wanna-be just like you so I don't have all the insight some of the team guys do but I have been on this forum for a while. Hopefully some of the team guys can answer your questions as well. Good luck.
