Don't worry about shipping sick. There are very good medical facilities at Boot Camp and if you are too sick to start training they will simply roll you back to another class so you can bet better. If it is just a cold, I guarantee they will pump you so full of penicillin that just about anything you have will go away. We called it the "peanut butter shot."

Congratulations by the way! You are taking a huge step to the rest of your life. Keep your nose down and get everything you can out of it... even when it seems pointless and stupid. There is a reason for everything and the messed up thing about life is that sometimes you have to get through something dumb to realize how valuable it was.

Keep us updated and good luck!

I agree with K's statement. One thing to note though, when you are in the Navy there is hardly ever any days throughout your career where you are considered "sick". In my 3 1/2 years in the Navy I have missed work a total of 2 days. The first was because I had food poisoning and was throwing up about every 10 minutes until noon that day. I had to go to work that morning at 0730 for my doc onboard to tell me I had the day off. The next day I got off for being "sick" was when I had my wisdom teeth removed. One thing you will learn being in the Navy is there are not days you are sick, there are just days you do not feel as well. I have stood watch throwing up, crapping every 20 minutes, severe headaches, etc. I am not complaining at all though, I am glad that the Navy has taught me that there is a BIG difference between being sick and not feeling well and still being able to do your job under whatever circumstance. I am not insinuating that you are a crybaby or anything like that. I am just letting you know the way the Navy is. Get used to hearing, "Aw hell, just hydrate and use some foot powder". Lol you will soon know what that joke means for all of us know in the Navy that water and foot powder will cure anything. Hope you get to feeling better though.

i appreciate that, i just want to make sure all the work i've been putting in isn't going to waste b/c i show up less than 100% i could care less about how i feel, i'll still make it happen..just don't want someone telling me i can't.
thank you again though.

Just see it as a wake up call that you need to take care of your health while in bootcamp. They recommend 8+ canteens of water a day... drink it. Use that hand sanitiser in your compartment. Just be clean and healthy, stay motivated, pay attention, and help out your shipmates!

Must be nice to have hand sanitiser! New ship pussies! Too bad the old barracks aren't there still, those were awesome... let me tell you. The same one's that GAU-17 and K were in. Those had tradition.

Boy, boot sure has changed in 20 years I guess. We weren't allowed to touch our canteens, ever. And in the hot, August sun in Orlando, Fla. well, that kinda sucked.

Tradition? I just remember freezing my butt off because it got cold three weeks before the Navy said it was supposed to be cold and they wouldn't turn on the heat until then.

As for wussifying boot camp, I came in right before the failed experiment that was the "stress card."

We did get water forced down us alot. That was to counter several major heat/dehydration related deaths during boot camp.

I remember our MAA was this big, tall muscular and slightly over weight black guy. The runs and grinder PT would always completely destroy him. But, he never gave an inch. I remember many times when I thought my heart was going to explode, "look at Jones, if he can hack it, so can I. My pain is nothing compared to his." And...we did.

Bravo Zulu SR Jones.
