thinking about purchasing the rings for my own use at home for pull ups, dips, etc. Anybody using them currently, likes and dislikes? Also, what are they constructed out of? I didn't see any description of the materials besides the nylon bands. Any input will be appreciated.

the rings are great. I don't know what they're made of but their strong as hell. My only dislike is that my house doesn't accommodate them well... all the ceilings are 8 feet. Can't do any muscle ups.

How did you mount them to the ceiling?

i didn't do that. A portion of my basement isn't finished. So I just went and flipped the straps around one of those big beams. I can't stand and do pull-ups though, I have to get on my knees. It kind of sucks, but oh well.

There's a guy at my gym that I see all the time that's using them. I think I would end up tied up or hanging by a noose by accident...those things are like a big spider web...it's a conspiracy, I'm sure of it *nod*

I picked up the Elite Rings a couple of months ago, and they're great. I have 'em hanging at home for practice, and bring them to the gym for WODs needing rings. You can hang them on a wooden support beam, if you have one, using 300# load woodscrew hooks (that's what I did). Luckily I've got 12' ceilings so I can practice MUs. You can always hang them from a tree or a jungle gym at the local park. I recommend buying them as I've found doing ring push-ups, for example, leave me sore and help develop more muscle strength and muscle endurance than push-ups on solid ground using either DBs or other raised handles. You really work your stabilizer muscles, and test your core strength. Fun times!

You haven't done dips until you try them using the rings, they are much, much harder and after you do them for a while regular dips are cake.

Well worth the investment

You know, thinking about the mechanics of using these for dips and push-ups (at the very least), these could really be spectacular. I had never really thought about it until gmt and rsctt said something. I'll definitely be picking up a set of these! *concocts new, more fiendishly evil training plan*

Here's a thread on the official Crossfit forums on how to make home made rings.

BigV- Yup, ever since I've had the rings I find myself using them whenever my tris/shoulders/chest aren't too sore, just for practice. My friend was joking when he saw them the other day, and said, "I can just see you watching TV while hanging from the rings ya freak!"

I also started to use them for my warm-ups, depending on the WOD. I usually do a stretch, then some variation of the CrossFit Warm-up (http://www.crossfit.com/cf-info/faq.html#General7). And let me tell ya, doing 3 sets of 10-15 ring Push-ups and ring Dips BEFORE a WOD is a whole new way to "warm-up."

Just received my rings from this site, and WOW!!! I love using these things. When I do my warning order, these things for dips and pull ups are amazing! The only downside is now its obvious how weak I am! :p I recommend these highly to anyone serious about getting stronger.

You can do them if you start in an L pull-up position. Then proceed to do your muscle up. It works for me.
