Can someone tell me what do you Tread water with in 2nd Phase?. How much weight would be good training to prepare for treading water with Tanks and weight belt on?. Im working with Divers on base here in Lemoore and nearly drown trying to tread water with twin 80 tanks + 2 weight belts. The Goal was to hit 60 secs but I only came to 40 secs before I had to reach up and grab the wall.

I train a little with a former PJ at my gym. He said the secret is getting your hip flexors strong threw lots and lots of flutter kicks. The key is to do them right. It is so easy to half @ss them. But, you want to strengthen your core. I guess the hip flexors can take the punishment longer than your legs. He told me that you are basically doing flutter kicks in the water. If you just use your legs you will wear them out way to fast.

The best thingyou can do to prepare for that is work on cardio, all of your legs, and relaxation. You can practice by using 5-6 pearls on a weight belt (15-18 lbs) and using jet fins if you wear a size -8.5 or +12.5, or using duck feet if you're between 9 and 12. You can also get some medicine balls and practice holding them above water while treading. That was something that helped me a lot.
Keep your hands out of the water and just relax. Everyone has different techniques, everyone does something different. Some studs have a very hard time, some that aren't that athletic have it easy. A lot of it has to do with body position. During practice with just a weight belt you may do fine with 6 pearls, but when you put on a SeaTec and twin 80's with a cluster bomb of a double hose regulator behind your head, it becomes difficult to get your groove.
As for kicking, some people prefer to do flutter kicks, others prefer very wide spread, deliberate kicks. Others do an egg beater type kick. Again, it's all up to what works for you.
