So ive begun my 4 month training endeavor for SWCC school and once i get past the shin splints i will be well underway. I have been taking a GNC multivitamin called Maximun Greens for the past year and while i cant say i have "felt" any different while taking them i have not been sick in over a year either. Before taking them i usually had 2-3 colds/flu/sinus infections a year. Maybe this year i was lucky but whatever. My question is would this be something i can/cant/should/or shouldnt take with me when i got to SWCC school? Pros/cons.
Thanks
Nick

first off, i hate it when people chime in with useless information, but i just wanted to say this, sorry.

i was taking a multivitamin for about a year with no big colds/flus or w/e. i couldn't buy them one month about 2 months back so i went without, and got the worst flu i think ive ever had! i lost about 6-7 pounds in the span of 2 days. i got back on and havent been really sick since, i swear by the damn things, just my 2(useless) cents. sorry, lol. Good luck with SWCC school though, hooyah

Surfer, your information is not useless, thats the exact type of answer i was looking for, and your experience is exactly what i want to avoid. Being 4 months out i either quit now and hope i dont get sick or keep taking them if i can, i dont even know if i can take them in SWCC school or not??? I was expecting to get the "let your body's immune system work naturally on its own" replies, as well as the "i swear by them" replies. Thanks for your input and hopefully others will chime in, im sure there are many with this same question.

I certainly can't speak for SWCC school or BUD/s, but, I would have someone mail you a bottle of two and take them during boot camp. They were allowed when I was in boot, although, that was a long time ago. But frankly, I can't see any rational reason to disallow them at boot or any school. The BTDT's can speak to that however.

So you're telling me theres a chance...
Anyone know for sure???
If they werent allowed would they still get to me if mailed or would they be confiscated?

Unfortunately boot camp is a no-go. As far as BUD/S and SWCC school go i can't really speak to, but from what has been said on here in the past a lot of people take their cars/trucks with them and store stuff in there. People have also said they allow individual packets of protein powder at BUD/S so with that allowed I couldn't see them rejecting a multi-vitamin. But with basic being 8+weeks, your body is probably going to have flushed out any effects of the vitamins so you may as well take them up until the LAST possible second, because you KNOW you're gonna get sick there.

Thanks for the link Jason. Why is it you say i KNOW i will get sick in boot camp? It it a germ fest? Since i cant take them to boot i will probably stop taking them 2 months out, get sick and recover, so i will hopefully have a strong immune system when i go to basic then to SWCC school. Then i will just get them mailed to me for SWCC school.

Vitamins are great. But it is possible to get everything you need from a healthy diet. The problem being, as was stated, when you then can't get them you might have problems. Like illness. Personally I look at them almost like a crutch. Thats just me though.

Yea from what most people have posted and experienced it's pretty likely you'll end up sick at basic, just a mix of anyone in your division who could have some illness coming in as well as the overall cleanliness of your shipmates who are touching the same things as you. I don't remember what post it was but someone said washing your hands like you have OCD is necessary in basic just to cut down on the transmission of germs.

My recruiter had mentioned that due to the number of vaccinations received in basic, you'll likely get somewhat sick off of that. Not to mention the usual germ filled environment. I think i will take my DV up to my ship date then stop taking them, go through basic hope for the best, and stay off them all through SWCC school, and see what happens.
