Sh4nty,

welcome to NSC. This is an excellent forum, containing a lot of excellent information relating to training, BUD/S and the Teams. There is a lot of valuable advice and suggestions contained within these threads answering all of your questions, because there simply is no short answer. It requires a little bit of "leg-work" on your part.

Have a look at the following thread and if you have further specific questions that you cannot find the answer to after going through the different parts, hopefully we will be able to address it for you.

Take some English courses because all military officers need to be able to write clearly with good grammar.

SEAL competition is intense. They take a look at your GPA, your extracirricular activities, your PST scores, and all. Most the guys who received an OCS billet had around a 3.5 ~ 3.9 GPA depending on the major, had leadership experience, and pretty good PST scores.

Letters of recommendation are also a big plus. High ranking naval Officers (current or former SEAL is a plus of course). Instructors, Deans, I know of a guy that got the Chancellor of his University to write him a letter of recommendation.

Ace the PST...and I do mean ACE. Officer slots are SO competitive, you're going to have to shine above the rest. Average performance in ANYTHING will put you behind the curve.

Sh4nty,

yes. You join the Navy and apply to OCS to become an officer. This is difficult in and of itself as the OCS slots are competitive. If you then score VERY competitively in ALL areas while at OCS, are an outstanding candidate, you MAY get the opportunity to attend BUD/S. However, many officers have to spend time in the fleet and persevere with a repeat application to go to BUD/S. Officer slots to attend BUD/S are VERY competitive and you must be an outstanding candidate.

This question has been asked several times and answered in great detail before in a number of threads.

Best of luck.
