View Full Version : Thursday 2/14 WOD
If you have difficulty with the Clean: When you venture up to the heavier weights, sub front squats for them.
You can do the three lifts in succession without putting the bar down, or break them up as needed.
Work on proper mechanics in these lifts.
Post your loads and comments.

When doing Jerks, is it best to always land with the same foot forward/backward or is it better to switch them up to maintain even strength training???

As I competed in many Olympic lifting contests, I can tell you from my experience that you can just land on the same foot forward/backward. No one I've ever met has switched them up.
For everyone that is having a tough time with the heavier weights, the jerk has a lot to do with leg strength and speed. Bend down and FIRE up with force to propel the weight overhead. Same rule applies to the push press, with the exception that splitting your legs on the jerk, helps you "get under the bar," as the old coach used to say.
If anyone has specific olympic lifting questions I'd be glad to answer anything I can.

What's up guys. I've been out at sea for the past couple of weeks and haven't been able to follow the WOD's as rx'd, so I did what I could, but had to modify a lot of things and internet access was limited so I didn't bother trying to post. Anyways...
HC's: 45-155
FS's: 45-205
Subed Press:45-135(5 setsx3)

Been really under the weather. Everything I was consuming was coming out of some end in my body....
155 as Rx'ed
185 FS
Before I felt like i was going to buckle under the weight.
Been away for a while but now I'm back. Good to see everyone getting after it.
45lbs - 155lbs = as Rx'd.
185lbs = sub'd 160lbs for Jerk
205lbs = got 1/185lbs for HSC, then missed the 2nd. Moved down to 155lbs. Jerk was at 160lbs. Front Squats as rx'd.
225lbs = sub'd 155lbs for HSC, 165lbs for Jerk. Front Squats as rx'd.
Thanks for the workout.

Thought all was well in the world of Dave...till today.
Nothing, nothing, has kicked me so hard as that. Really.
45-115 as rxed.
Accidently did 122 instead of 135 because I just forgot to put on the last plates.
But did it.
Did 143 instead of 155 because when I put 155 on there, the weight jump was too much.
Stopped at this weight because my shoulder hurt and my wrists were jacked from the cleans. Toughed out the last set even though my shoulder was killing me and I hit failure, but I thought pushing through more would be stupid rather than bad-@$$.
in total 30 min, but 45 to 122 was done in 15, followed by 5 min break.

Warm-up as RX'd ~10-12 mins
WOD as RX'd ~ 30 mins
I took my time to really focus on form at the higher weights. For each set I did one hang squat Clean followed by a front squat followed by a Jerk, then repeated without putting the bar down until upping the weight.
Cleans were as RX'd up to and including 185, very happy with form and how they felt. Couldn't get the 205# up because I kept losing grip since I was protecting my left thumb, which has a burn blister on it. So I was not using hook grip, or any thumb support on left, and I had to even that out on the right so I was all fingers!
Front Squats were as RX'd all weights, again very happy with form and how they felt. Could have easily gone much higher in weight.
Jerks were as RX'd up to and including 185, happy with form up until around 155, then 185 form broke down a bit I feel. For the last two sets of C&J I dropped to 155 to work on form, then did cooldown sets of the whole WOD at 135 and 95, again to practice form.
Also, some gym fun, I finally got yelled at. The gym has bumpers, but the manager still came to scold me for 1) not wearing my sneakers while in the gym, and 2) dropping the weights. I guess my two failed attempts to Clean 205 woke him up, big goof!
