The Boatmen are the craziest outfit in the entire military. Imagine yourself sitting on the shore, you are a pretty good shot so this juicy all alone in the water target comes along. Even a child can hit a boat in the water with a rifle!!

The Boat Units take the highest casualty rate in the entire military---yet they deal death in spades.

The SEALs, the Corps, the Berets, the PJ's, and even downed pilots rely on the boats to come. And the boats always come---regardless of the circumstances. Anyone under the care of the Boatmen is safe, the Boatmen sacrifice their lives for them.

The Boatmen can and do kick enemy warships into play for the fleet to sink--with extreme prejudice. The Boatmen risk extreme danger doing this, but they do it because they are Boatmen.

The Boatmen are the understated warriors of the Navy. If you want to be one of this fraternity, expect to be less than respected and less than recognized. This isn't just a neato get to play with boats and guns job, this is a job with serious repurcussions. This is the job in the Navy that can get you killed.

I am a proud Boatman and I wouldn't have ever had it any other way. The SEALs here will agree with what I say.

Boys--------THINK before you decide to take SWCC seriously. If your serious, the Wild Men of the boats will welcome you. If your not, you will be weeded out in training----even if you do make it through school. This is a fraternity---a brotherhood. You place your life in the hands of your brother, and he places his in yours. This is a dangerous job kids------even in training.

So---wanna be SWCC?

So---wanna be SWCC?

I'd say i am still dead set on going for SWCC.

Is it true that many of the casualties come from the harsh conditions they are put through on the boats, thus many broken legs/ arms?

Too true. The CNO gave a speech to the SEAL and SWCC students in Coronado. He mentioned SEAL, he mentioned Special Warfare, but not once did he say SWCC.

Too many times have I heard, "What is SWCC?"
And then after I explain, sometimes I hear, "Oh, you mean the SEAL guys on the boats?"

Sigh.

I send much love and respect to all the Boat Guys. There are plenty of people out there that know who you are and support what you do (not to mention the many wives you have on your team!).

You ARE the quiet warriors.

You ARE the best kept secret in the Navy!

You ARE the best kept secret in the Navy!

I was talking to my friend last night who was in SWCC training, and unfortunately got dropped because of a past medical history that was uncovered, and that is exactly what he said.

Quick question, sorry im too lazy to find out. But do the SWCC's go through BUD/s too, or do they have their own pipeline they go down. I thought BUD/s was just for SEALs but it sounds like they have SWCCs there too.

Well written Sea. Good to see the attitude hasn't changed over the years.

Ain't nothing like a nice quiet ride on a river about 30 meters wide when all hell breaks loose from both banks. Or going in for a hot extraction just knowing that you are going to take some hits.

Back in the day ( the Nam ), it wasn't a matter of ' if I get hit' it was more ' when I get hit '

As a matter of fact, Boat guys in the Nam suffered 2,558 KIAs. To put that in perspective, when you see The Wall with the 58.000 plus names on it, 1 out of 23 is a River Rat

To ALL you Boat guys of today---------------BRAVO ZULU

Not so much legs and arms but ankles, knees, shoulders, neck and back.
