hey guys,

well first the intro. im currently a second class assigned to sdvt-1 out here at pearl harbor. been in the navy for about a year now after crossing over from the army, where i was a light infantryman. in a few weeks i fly to coronado for indoc with a class up date of 10 march. i've been asking around the team trying to find someone to give me some info, like what to expect at indoc, school, etc etc, but just end up getting stories from when they were in bud/s, and of course the occational "SWCC? just go to bud/s dude!", which is all totally understandable, when you see where im asking around...haha

SO....if anyone here could be of any help, it would be great.

aloha,

nick

What exactly are you going into indoc for? Are you wanting to go SWCC or what? Your posts really didn't explain what you want...

Juicetape------NO!! Don't go instigating stuff without having a clue. SDV has a lot of support personnel as well as divers.

WTF would SEAL want to go SWCC??

This site is just full of brilliant stuff like this armytonavy, just sort through the kids and you might find some useful stuff.

Goddam I hate when some kid jumps on a thread when he doesn't even begin to have a clue.

Please see my posts in the general talk archives.

In all fairness Juicetape, SeaSpectre isn't the one who jumped to a conclusion here. You assumed that armytonavy is automatically a SEAL because he is SDVT-1, then you asked if he was a SEAL. So if anyone jumped to a conclusion I'd have to say it was you and not Sea.

SeaSpectre's point is valid here Juicetape. Sorry but I'm just calling it as I see it. He's not being childish or seeking attention.....he's merely trying to keep the threads on topic.

and just to clarify......im not a seal, nor did i ever say i was. seems like theres people on here who think they know everything about the inner workings of NSW, but really have no clue when offering up advice or making comments. probably some DEP kid waiting to go to boot camp is more like it. for those operators who are on here, no offence to you guys.

You know KH...you keep agreeing with my posts. If I was a paranoid person I'd be nervous. Maybe it's just because you heading to my neck of the woods soon. Shoot me a PM when you're headed to Great Lakes...if you get some free time I'll head downtown and treat you to a decent Chi town meal.

armytonavy, you want to get an idea about what to expect at indoc and on.

If you still have time pick up some books from D i c k Couch:
The Warrior Elite: The Forging of Seal Class 228
Real good book on Indoc and BUD/S. Mr. Couch (former SEAL) joined the class to give a real life account of modern day BUD/S.

The Finishing School: Earning the Navy SEAL Trident
This is a great follow up on The Warrior Elite.

Also take a look at Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell and Patrick Robinson. Great personnal accounts of a sad day in SpecOps history. Marcus also gives a great account of his own experience of Indoc and BUD/s.

Does this kinda answer your questions? Anymore questions, let us know.

emhoffman- he is NOT going into the SEAL program. He is beginning his SWCC training. There was apparently a misunderstanding at first, but he further explained in his second post. Just wanted to clear that up.

My bad. I thought SWCC candidates went through Indoc and BUD/s too.

Not a problem. From what I understand, SWCC and SEAL go through indoc together, however, after that, they branch off to their individualized training. So, no, SWCC doesn't go through BUD/S. They go through SWCC school, which consists of two periods of training called BCT and CQT. Just considering what BUD/S stands for, and then considering what SWCC stands for, you can gather that they are two horses of different colors. :)

This was a prime example of what I was getting at in the thread proper use of the forums ............ if you are not an expert on topic please refrain from posting. I know you guys mean well but responses need to be from "been there done that guys" with special knowledge about the topic. This was a total cluster screwup and only detracts from the value of the site.

Lets learn from this example so that this does not happen again, sometimes less is better

To the original SWCC poster .... stay with us this was an aboration not at all indicative of the normal way things work

swcc and buds no longer go through indoc together. It doesn't matter what your orders say about starting indoc , you will be on hold for awhile. Lots of students are on hold and count on being on hold for over a month.

swcc and buds no longer go through indoc together.

I double checked my info and that is correct. I was told they used to go through indoc together and I managed to forget the "used to" part.

My apologies.
