I've always been thin and scrawny but after i started working out in the weight lifting class at my highschool and at the Y iv noticed not only muscle gain but what seems to be fat gain. in my stomach region iv noticed its projected and somewhat soft when its not flexed but when i flex it hard but still projected. it this because working my abs has made them grow out? i work my abs somewhat strenuosly 5 times a week or more between weight training, martial arts, and at home. I dont run as much as I should about 1-2 miles 2-4 times a week.

it's what you're putting in your body, man.
bulking up/putting on lean mass, regardless of how clean you eat and how much work you do in the gym, you'll also sadly put on a tad bit of fat. that's just the way it goes.

KH8 is right on the money. Generally speaking is very very hard to add muscle mass without also putting on some fat. It CAN be done, but, you've got to have all elements dialed in to a level of precision that is hard for anyone to accomplish...even the pros. Take a solid look at your diet and I think you'll find your true culprit.

yes i do admit i was eating more because i was hungry more and i did practice quite a bit of gluttany. I have recently been trying to counteract that. Iv been avoiding unhealthy foods almost entirely with some troubles. Iv been buying specifically healthy foods and eating smaller portions and iv given up soda almost entirely (only get them sometimes when i go out to eat). Iv never eaten sweets much because i dont like them, i am also trying to limit my cheese intake which is hard because i do love that. any other thing i need to consider? im going to try to work into lean meats next and whole wheat pasta and bread.

Even if you eat healthy you're still gonna see some fat gains if you pursue long endurance workouts as your body tries to store up fat it knows its gonna need for energy. Stick solely to intervals and it will cut the effects of fat stores but then again you are def. gonna need endurance for BUD/S. Plus... fat keeps you warm... haha

consider how often you eat. and how much you eat. if you want to get really precise i'm sure there is **** online where you can put in your weight and some calculator will spit out how many calories you need to maintain weight, gain weight, etc. it will probably also tell you how many grams of protein, carbs, fat, you should be having. look into that if you like.

im not extremely worried considering i still have relatively low body fat. im going to get a body fat scale to track it but i was only worried it may continue. i have actually began a more rigorous endurance plan and i have a little more fat gain i can deal with it. i know im getting my workout and im starting to look alot better and after avoiding the bad foods im starting to see a more defined stomach and chest.

lots of good information in here. you cant put on muscle without bulking up a little with some excess fat. its almost imperative that you feed your body with 6-8 small meals a day with a healthy blend of protein, carbs, and fats (obviously more protein and carbs). but a common saying is that in order to put an inch on your arms or chest you have to put on 10 lbs. it might not sound managable but you can definitely put on that size and lose that fat rather quickly afterwards.
alot can be taken from the bodybuilding and fitness world about basic nutritional guidelines.
keep eating, keep lifting, run in the mornings...HOOYAH
