Hey guys,
im heading out to play in the sand in a couple of months for some "activities" and need a pair of desert boots. Has anybody come across a real nice comfortable pair that would be suitable for running in or spending a lot of time of your feet and rolling around in?
What are the desert boots like that are advertised on the NSC store site? Obviously if i got good feedback i would like to buy them here and support the foundation.
Any suggestions or feedback would be welcome.
Thanks.

The guys on my deployment to the box wore several types. I personally bought Altama deserts and put a nice pair of insoles in them.
But here is what I saw and what was liked...
-Oakley desert boots: Extremely comfortable but pricey
-Garmont T6 and T8(T8 goes higher up the ankle): Extremely comfortable. You can get them from Extreme Outfitters for a little over $100. Website: http://www.extremeoutfitters.us/

AK,
thanks a million for the response. Much appreciated. I had looked at the Altama myself. How did you find them? Comfortable?

I like wearing the desert boots by converse. You don't have to buy them from that link that is just a quick google to show them to you. They are really comfortable, I wear them when my wife and I go hiking, I haven't pted in them though so I don't know what it would be like running in them.

I like my Altama's. They lasted the entire deployment and I still use them at the range. I put a nice pair of insoles in them and they are GTG. No complaints here. Obviously they don't have the same padding Oakley and Garmont put in them...
If I were in an SOF unit and never had to worry about tucking my camie pants in, I would have gone with the Garmont's or Oakley's. But because I went over with conventional forces, unless we were outside the wire, our pants were tucked in. Hope that makes sense...

I'm a second for the Converse, I do PT in mine and they are just now 1 year old. Running on concrete has scarred up some of the tread, but they are great to run in. I just changed out the insoles-and they are good to go for maybe another year, we'll see.

I wear Belleville boots. They are well constructed and comfortable for me (been wearing boots on a daily basis for quite a while). The other boots I would look at are Oakly and the 5.11 Tactical HRT boot. The quality of both are much better than Altama. No disrespect for the other opinions here but I have not had any luck with Altama products. Let us know what you end up with.

The Oakleys are pretty awesome! I can run, hike or PT in mine with little to no problem. As said before they are a little expensive, but usually there's truth in the fact that you get what you pay for.
Just got a pair of the Rocky S2V boots, we'll see how these do. Got them in the Sage green for ABU, like them so far...

I have to say, i like the look of the garmont and everything i have read around them is very positive. Plus, they are a little less pricey than the oakleys. Have you worn either the T6 or T8. Im just wondering which would be more suitable and how high up the T8 is (or how low the T6 is).
Guys, thanks for all the help. Very much appreciated on this end.

The Garmont boots are available here as well, for the same price as Extreme Outfitters. We offer free shipping for orders over $149!

I personally did not wear them, but my buddy from the box absolutly loved them and wouldn't wear anything else out there...
Is this desert trip military or pleasure?

Cool. You'll be happy with either one, bro. It's just up to you how much ankle support you want.
Now, back to see how many new post moskito has posted in the time it took me to type this.

Danners are the shizzle.
Damn, thats the second time ive heard of the danners today!!
Well, just went and ordered a pair of the Garmont T6 boots before i read that. I just didnt feel that it was worth the extra for the oakleys when these are very well regarded.
Thank you for all your inputs. I will let you know how i get on.

My buddy and I were at Extreme Outfitters when he got his. The guy behind the counter, former Team guy, said they were issued to ST-8 or ST-10, I can't remember right now. They also had only good things to say about them. He said half the platoons were wearing these and the other half were wearing Merrell's...then again, you know a SEAL platoon, 7 guys all wearing 7 different things...

Are you allowed to select the foot wear of your choice in the teams? Or do they have to approve it?

divedoc, how'd those T6's treat you?
I found some here: http://www.hardcoretactical.com/pages/garmont.php
That's the lowest price I've seen for the T6 boots. They even offer a water repellency coating or something on them.
Anybody want to vouch for this website? Almost too good to be true, right?
I would use them for backpacking in the Cascade and Olympic mountain ranges during the summer season. It can be pretty damp here. I need breathability as my feet sweat a lot, and these look like they'd fit the bill at a good price. I use Corcoran Field boots (see link below) in the winter, but they get too damned hot in the summer.
