This may be an off-the-wall kind of question, but, I'll throw it out there anyway. When I was in the Navy (pre-9/11) civilians could visit military bases and get tours. Now that we all live in the post-9/11 world and security on military bases is much higher, is this still the case? I'd LOVE to fly out to Coronado/S.D. and take a day to visit the Amphib base. It's the closest thing to a pilgrimage I can think of...

When I've visited it was with retired military personnel who presented their creds at the gate, then picked up guest passes.

Boy have I got an idea for you ....... why not enter Super Frog triathalon in April? As the old saying goes this would kill two birds with one stone.

You know, I actually watched last years event on ESPN. And while I swim like a fish, and bike about 200 miles a week, the running would be my doom atm. I'll look up some details though...it IS an intriguing idea :)

I've been wondering the same. We have a race in Dinwiddie, VA and I wouldn't mind heading over to Little Creek or Dam Neck, where I went to "A" school.

I went to San Diego on vacation in 08/06 and requested a tour for my family at BUD/s from the pub. relations officer in advance. When I got there and called to schedule they told me that nobody is getting on. I thought that was a little disappointing. I graduated class 130 and was in Team 3. I think they cheated me. My kids cried all the way back home to Oregon. Not really, we had a great time in SD.
