Has NSW made the switch from M4 to the HK 416 yet?

The 416 would more likely replace the MP5. It's more of a CQB weapon. Barrel length of a sub, just using the cartridge of a rifle. As I understand it...

The 416 Comes with multiple length barrels. they have them in 10.5 all the way up to 20" they might have shorter and longer also.

I really wish they would show what the SCAR is capable of.

The "battlefield pickup" capability of the FN SCAR Mk. 17 is pure genius. Can't believe it took this long to think of.

Does the SCAR have a quick cooldown like the 416?

Here is a little information about the FN SCAR weapons. Very diverse weapons.

Keep in mind that the 7.62x39 "battlefield pickup" ammunition is not going to work in the standard SCAR-H, but can only be utilized in a weapon specifically chambered for that round.
What do you mean, "took this long"?? Are you forgetting about the KAC SR-47 from back at the turn of the century? There's an idea that never took off. I'm not saying it's a BAD idea, but you'd be better off just picking up an AK as long as you're already scrounging around for mags.

As far as the "quick cooldown" with the 416, it's not so much that it cools down quicker. With its piston and operating rod arrangement, it just doesn't get as hot in the first place, as compared to the standard M4 with its direct impingement gas system.
Nice to see topics like this for a change.

True. But the majority of the operators I've spoken with tell of largely customizing their weapons. So I don't see alot of guys carrying just the standard weapon. I'm aware the ammo won't work in the standard SCAR-H, but the main idea of the weapon is the more options the better. And I've also heard several times that the distinctive clack of an AK often can draw friendly fire, but also alot of guys are using it when they run out of .223 ammo, so maybe it's not that common. I do remember the SR-47. But recall it was a failure because of its AR-15 type gas system and dirty rounds. So if they can make this work well with 7.62 I see it being a huge improvement.

You aren't talking about the video game here, are you?
It's been said that H&K has had a change of heart and may make these available on the civilian market. You can get just the upper receiver if you look hard enough, though, which you can pop onto your current AR-15 lower. Probably about $4000-$5000 for the upper, but you can expect that price to drop as they become more available.
There are other (i.e. CHEAPER) alternatives for those who "need" a piston-operated AR, such as LWRC. It's been said that some front-line units have been equipped with the 416, but don't forget about the widespread use of the Mk18 Mod 0 by the Teams. That still uses the standard M-16 type direct-impingement operating system

The Mk18 is the same as their M4 they just change to a 10.5" upper.

Actually, NSWC Crane did supply some LMT 10.5" CQBR uppers during the late 2003/early 2004 time frame for this purpose, but the actual COMPLETE (and marked as such) Mk18 Mod 0 weapons delivered were entirely of Colt origin, with 10.3" barrels. In addition to the Colt-supplied complete weapons, NSWC also built complete Mk18s using Colt-supplied (10.3") uppers and refurbished M4A1 receivers. These weapons are laser-marked accordingly:

Hi. My name is Emil and I'm from Norway. I stumbled upon this thread regarding the HK416. My unit is going from the old G3A3 to the HK416 this year.
This weapon is in my opinion only suited for urban warfare and should never be deployed in forests and so forth due to the lousy caliber. 5.56 x 45 screams ricochet.

What about that crazy rifle that was on Future Weapons? Where the barrel was actually built into the gun so it was small and compact yet worked at a longer range.

I think you're referring to the H&K MP7, which is a PDW (Personal Defence Weapon).

no he is talking about a bullpup design specifically the Israeli Tavor that was on Future weapons

Bull pups take longer to reload than the normal set up only thing I don't like about them.

They should look into the Barrett M468 Assault Rifle, its built just like the Colt M4 it just has bigger 6.8 bullet.
Check the futureweapons segment on it:

have they shown the P90 on Future weapons? but yeah the P90 fits the description as well its cool that it has a 50 round mag but there also a bit of a pain to load and they fire 5.7 instead of 5.56
