I wanted to post a big hello, and let everyone know that I swore in to the Navy Wednesday. I am proud to have made the decision to go for the SB rating. After having thoroughly researched SWCC all across the internet (including these forums), I decided that it is definately the job for me. Being 28 years old and married, it was a big decision for my wife and I to make, but there is no doubt in my mind I made the correct one. After discussing SWCC with my recruiter months ago, I decided to make a trip to Little Creek to check out the base and talk to Team guys in person. To put it simply, I wanted to hear it from "the horses mouth". That trip proved to be invaluable. After talking to an instructor and checking out the base, all of my doubts were relieved. I wanted to include a big thanks to all you Team guys who put your time and effort into these forums to help us recruits and potential recruits. I would definately say that 90% or more of my questions were answered from these forums.
I look forward to working with all of you in the future. Please keep me in your prayers as I work and prepare for what is undoubtedly going to be the greatest challenge I have ever faced in my life. Thanks! -Ed

Well, I asked a good many questions the day I was there. Most of them related to getting ready for my PST, and what type of life I can expect to live as a SWCC. Turns out alot of the stuff I was doing to prepare was a bit overkill. He told me to concentrate on the basics to prepare for the PST. Do ONLY what I need to do. This has now been reinforced by the SEAL motivator that I will be working with as well.
Being that this instructor was married and had kids, he was able to tell me how the job affects him and his family. It seems as though it's similiar to working a normal job for the most part (when not deployed), with the exception of the possibility to be called out on a moments notice, or having to work late to take care of misc. equipment issues that need resolved.

Bored, to be honest with you, it was alot of factors that played into me finally joining the military. I have always wanted to do it, but where I am in my life right now, it makes alot of sense for my wife and I. Besides that, I was raised with my father telling me he believed all young men should serve their country. I still believe that. I grew up in San Diego watching the Special Warfare guys train, and always wanted to be a part of it. I don't know a whole lot about boats, so it will be something new and exciting for me. I absolutely love the water, and I did want a combat related job where I would receive some valuable tactical training as well. All things considered, I would say this is the job where I will learn the most, and where I can serve my country well by doing it.

Yeah, that's another reason. I actually own a Landscape Architecture Firm. I got a degree in Landscape Architecture and have done it for a few years now. I enjoy it, but it's no longer a challenge. The challenge factor of SWCC was a big reason of why I wanted to do it as well. I'm a sucker for a good challenge... ;)

Ed- Congratulations and good luck! What kind of workouts were you doing that were overkill? When you headed to boot camp?

Silent,
I was doing some old CJ Caracci videos I had, as well as running about 4 miles every day of the week. The SBT instructor told me there is alot of things in those videos that are meant for guys who are already at a really high fitness level, not trying to train for it. He also told me not to damage myself by running too much, and give myself some recovery time.
I'll tell you what, the SEAL motivator I am working with has a GREAT PT schedule if you are looking for one.
