hey guys,

Im having problems with blisters after running. When I run with army boots its the worse. But if I run like 6 mile with normal running shoes im getting the same blisters. Problem is the blisters are not going away, because I keep running and the blisters keep comming.

I hope anyone here can tell me something about how to prefent blisters when running with army boots (which are heavy) and normal running shoes.

Thanks in advance,

first of all stop running until your blisters heal. the what kind of socks do you wear? you want something thick to cushin the blow on your feet.i strongly dis courage ankle socks. those are paper thin and suck for running. try getting some gel insules also. and your shoes/boots may be to small. before you run try applying gold bond medicated foot powder to your foor then some in your sock as well as your shoes. if none of that works then your running wrong and putting to much stress in your stride. always run on your toes and the balls of your feet dont run flat footed.

There are many ways to prevent blisters and as an extreme athlete the two things that are your worst nightmare are stomach problems and foot problems. When I am doing a long run/climb I pre-tape my feet using a new tape that has just come on the market here is link

http://www.zombierunner.com/store/categories/foot_care/tapes/product603.html

The definitive guide to proper footcare {pre-taping} is written by Jon Vonhoff and it's called Fixing Your Feet. The book will explain in depth how to pre-tape your feet. Since I started doing this I have had zero blisters and I have done a few really extreme things .... running through Death Valley in summer, no blisters.

I highly recommend this book if you want to take blisters out of the equation

thanks for the advice all of you,

first of all I will stop running until my blisters are gone. I run on regular socks so since you're saying thats bad I will buy me some better socks. Honorman I have blisters on the front of my toes, bottom and on the back of my feet. Rsctt83 I may buy this tape to give it a try since its really cheap:) and respect that you ran trough death valley, Ive been there, its way to hot to run:)

Hmm...this weekend taught me a bit about blisters i have to say.

I have a pair of bates that have been at my heels when i go for longer than about 5 miles so i taped up both heels this weekend. This did the job. But i did get a whopper of a blister on the medial aspect of my left foot. Its just about where the sole comes onto the foot below and behind the medial mallelous (ankle bone). Blister is about 1 inch by 3 inches. I have a few other small ones on sides of toes etc.

The boots are very comfortable and a good fit, but im just wondering if my feet start to swell a little and put pressue on different points. I think what im gonna do is try taping both feet next time and see how i get on. The blisters are annoying and i think its just one of those things you deal with overcome and have out of the way, prevention and treatment wise.

Rsc, im very impressed with no blisters after/during Badwater. Will follow your advice and tape fully and see how i get on.

UPDATE: It is 1 - 2 weeks later now since I posted this. I stopped running to let my feet heel, but my blisters are just not going away. It is hard for me to not run, so tomorrow I will start again with running. It sounds stupid but cant I just remove the blisters on my tees with a knife or something? Anyways I will run a 10 mile backpack run with boots tomorrow on the beach with the advice some of you here gave me, I hope it will prevent new blisters.

have a nice day and good luck with training

Blisters wise ... puncture slightly and let the fluid drain out and then cover them properly, with a little antibiotic ointment under as well. They are going to hurt if they are bad ones, either way. This allows and promotes a new layer of skin to develop under the skin where the blister formed and will form a new skin barrier against friction. Do NOT pull the skin off the blister as the flesh underneath will feel almost raw and it will hurt A LOT to talk or put any kind of pressure on it. Let it shed.

Blisters are going to hurt either way, but after a day or two they should start to calm down.

Guys

I am in process of getting this book into our online store, but in the meantime you all need to purchase this book, it's called Fixing Your Feet by John Vonhoff. This book will empower you with the knowledge to virtually eliminate blisters. I have not had a blister issue in years and this would include running in severe heat and running/climbing in mountains.

The book is under $20.00 and can be bought through our site {if not available} yet go to Amazon.com

Foot care is the single biggest issue in endurance stuff and this book will bestow upon the reader all of the knowledge John has accumutaled over the years treating adventure racers and extreme endurance athletes.

In closing here's one for you, my friend Marshall after years of blackened toe nails from running decided to have his toe nails surgically removed. I still on occassion get a blackened toe nail or two, mostly on very long stuff when feet swell up within shoe.

Hope this helps

Straight $$$ Rsctt!! I've always had a problem with this, even back in boot camp when we were marching on the hot-as-h$ll blacktop in the middle of August in Orlando, Fla.

http://www.bragg.army.mil/specialforces/sf_training_overview.htm

That website is Fort Braggs official Special Forces site. Go to that page and scroll all the way to the bottom, there will be a box loading or loaded under the name;

"Special Forces Assessment and Selection Course (SFAS) Out Briefing".

Use the controls on the box to go to the 14th page of the box, it's all about blisters

It probably just rehashes what you've already been told, but maybe it will help you out.

If you want to eliminate blsiters forever go to our online store and purchase book Fixing Your Feet by John Vonhoff. If you read the book and follow John's instruction you will be blister free .....

I have done some gnarly stuff that tears up feet and since I began using John's technique no more blisters .... ZERO. This includes 300 miles through desert in summer.

This will be best $19.00 you ever spent!

A training coach of mine once told me to take care of my feet!! It was suggested that at night I soak them in warm water for 15 minutes or so, dry them off and then apply vaseline...liberally, then cover with socks for the night. And when I go for a run, apply more vaseline, just not as liberally. At first it feels all squishy, but that will disappear.

Also, I certainly can't say with boots, but with running shoes, go and get fitted. They'll look to see if you're either a pronator, supinator, or even runner. They should have you (with your old running shoes on and then with the suggested styles) run away from them and then back towards them. I've always been told to buy mine a 1/2 size bigger than I normally would to allow the foot to "slide" in the shoe, versus the toes, heel, or whatever to be in constant friction with the shoe.

In the years that I've been following the advice I've maybe had 5 blisters...not to say that I haven't had hot spots, but blisters have been few.

Good luck to you!
