jw,
We just picked orders today and there were none to 2 so I picked 12. It was hard to not pick 8, but this was for my wife, as well. If you could tell me what you know on the differences between 12 and 2 that would be great. If you have to, send me a pm on the other site. Thanks a lot.

Great news. What is your arrival date? You may still end up at 2 as everything is in a state of flux for the time being. It really doesn't matter, as the missions are the same for the most part.

I've heard that. We have a lot of guys with orders to 12 show up and get told that they're going to 2. Hope so, but either way, I'll be happy. It was hard because I had first pick and they had Sig, Guam, SD, and 12. It was just a great feeling to see our names assigned to different Mobile Units. I don't know how to explain it. We had a lot of overseas billets. I don't know when I'll report. We graduate here March 11th. Go to Benning right after that. I think we report in there on March 14th, and then on to tac training at TEU 1. So, I'm thinking May some time. Still so far away. Most everyone got what they wanted. The first three picks went to 12. Me and my closest friend really wanted 2, but we're still very excited to get to work. Now, I can get you those beers I owe you.

Hey gator,

Congrats on 12. Quick question, when did you guys actually sit down and divy out orders among your class? Are they still being given out during underwater? I just tested out of IEDs and was curious. Also, how many slots did they have to MU1 and 3? Thanks.

mcdb, if you're trying to go to SD, don't be afraid of 11. It's already started the move.

Gator, any status on you yet?

Awesome jw, thanks for the update. I didn't know that they were in the process of moving already.

jw, quick question, what are they doing with the ensigns that report to the mobile units? thanks.

Either an OIC or AOIC ride. AOIC is the prefered, but not always the case. That's on the East Coast, but I can't see that the WC would be any different.

jw,
I'll be classing up with the next undewater class in about a week and a half. I won't have to re-take any of the tests I already took. If this would have happened just a couple of days earlier, I would have been good to dive probably so that sucks, but I'm really eager to get back in training. I was told that I'll keep my orders and my new grad date is at the end of april. I'm pretty much all healed up. All of the stuff is closed up.

daniel,
yeah, you'll pick orders in underwater. we had 5 slots to 12, 5 slots to 3, 5 slots to guam, and 3 to sicily. the 5 to 12 went right away and then 3 went quick, as well. we didn't have any slots to 1, but the officers did. I think we picked in our 4th week of underwater. every class seems to use different criteria. good luck.

Dfc, last I heard, he was a Cdr. He was CO at TEU One. I know he left there, but I don't know where he went. He was my Ops O in 02/03.

Gator, let me know what you get. Are they going to give you first pick since you lost your orders due to a medical issue?

No, I won't get first pick. I don't really know what's going on with it. I'll know by the end of the month, I think. That's when they're picking their orders, I believe. I should pick somewhere in the top 5 or 6, I think. It's a bit of a different animal with this class.

You need to come East. My 2 cents.

No word yet. We were supposed to do our first dive test (mk 2), but we have lightning and thunderstorms so they scrubbed the test until Monday. No word on orders, either.

gator33, i understand that u are currently in EOD school? if u are, would u say that the written tests are hard/ and wat kind of stuff would u expect to be on the written tests and such?

There's nothing you need to study or really could study to get ready for this school, in my opinion. You just need to really take every test seriously. The written tests aren't really the most difficult part. Take advantage of study hall and stay focused.

Has the training been fun? It's been very rewarding and that, to me, makes it fun. At this point in my life it's all about being part of something that is challenging and rewarding and makes you proud to do it. It was a pretty long road for me to get to this point. The prac tests here are the fun part, especially when you get to Ground, Air, and IED's. It's some of the most challenging things I've had to do. Dive school, for me, was a huge hurdle for it's own reasons, so it's been a rewarding journey, and it's still far from over. One of the reasons I wanted to do this is because it will never stop. The learning, adapting, all of that. When you're going through school, you'll think, "Man, we really have a test on all of that...tomorrow!" But, you learn to trust yourself and what you've been taught. There is nothing I would rather be doing. Nothing. If there was, I would be doing it. I wouldn't have extended to come here.

Anytime you have questions, feel free to ask. I had A LOT of support through sites like these over the last 5 years. jw, and one of my proctors from dive school three years ago, as well as FORCM have helped me out immensely. My proctor from dive school 3 yrs. ago, when I didn't make it, was there when I went back through. I found him in the crab pot and asked him if he would pin me there and he said he'd be honored to and when he pinned me with my dive bubble, he handed me the first crab he was pinned with at EOD school and said he didn't know anybody else he would want to give it to. I can't tell you what that meant to me and that's the kind of support I've gotten from people. I've been lucky and it's good to be able to help out as best I can. My biggest advice going through school and training, is to stay humble and always remember to go by the Memorial and honor those men and women. Every week I go there and it will never fail to affect you. Good luck. Stay focused and keep trying to do better at learn more about everything. I still have 6 weeks of Underwater and 2 weeks of EQT, so I'll be around for a while. Take care.
